What car ad's do people like?
Discussion
Sorry if this is an old chestnut but I did a quick search and cannot see it recently.
I have been wondering about what car ad's you all like, advertising appeal being a highly individual thing.
Speaking personally, I think that pretty much all BMW ad's are spot on and that Rover have had some great ad's over the years including "Minis have feelings"; "Britisher Architect"; the Montego parking ad; and the recent MG "high strength, full fat..." stuff (most of which has got them into trouble with the ASA!). To me, most car ad's are either deeply predictable (mountain roads, deserts, etc.) or just plain awful (anything Vauxhall has done for years; the recent MR2 ad's; and the current Mazda campaign spring to mind).
What about you?

Well the naffest has got to be the Mazda ads, "Vroom Vroom.." up yer jacksy mate.
Best- hmm well the Clio ads featuring Madamselle Helene Mahieu certianly got me going if only for the gorgeous french bodywork. The Pug ads are a damned insult to all RNLI people and I turn over the station the instant they come on.
The funniest at teh mo are probably the min ads, even though they get tiring after a while.

The Laguna 'Serious Playtime' is the most 'on the money' ad IMO.
It shows the features of the car, not some tosser making squealing noises round the corners or some bint giving her bloke a hard time because all men are inferior morons or promoting inappropriate fog-light use.
If the Laguna ran over the twat in the C5 and the bint in the Punto and that one in the Focus too, then ran head on into that Clio, I'd buy one.

Unfortunately - "None of the above". I just don't get car ads. Its a car, it goes. They don't advertise 'interesting' cars...
Oh, its got cupholders. And its full of scantily clad women, and a jet fighter upside down over it, and the driver has to go "squeeek" while he goes round corners... I'll take two.

Citroen ads of late are particularly crappy - The C3 -Jet Fighter, C5 - tyre squeal and the archetypal - Baldy Git barks on about low prices - are all damned irritating. The ad for the new Saab 9-3 is a lowpoint as well!
I agree the Golf ad is very watchable - There were some absolute crackers of VW ads on adcritic.com before it was sold off.
The ad with the Indian guy smashing up his Hindustan Ambassador to make it look like a Pug 206 is a cracker.
The new

The current 206 ad is amusing, where an asian youth remodels his Hindustan Ambassador into a 206 shape by driving it into walls, getting an elephant to sit on it, bashing it with a hammer and welding it. Generally Peugot ads are absolute rubbish, so it makes a change. I don't see many ads as a rule though (no need to with TiVo, with a 60x fast forward speed).
I can't believe no one has mentioned the current Saab advert. The one with the bloke hooning round a race track. It clearly showns the guy speeding and I'm sure there's even a sniff of tail out action. How do they get away with such blatent displays of speed and spirited driving when poor old MG gets blasted for showing wheels wich might be blurred thus implying speed. I mean for F*** sake.
Amyway its a good advert pity TVR don't do such a blatent advert. That would be nice

i like the hyundai one for that shocking, yet strangely enjoyable tune "made out of glue"
also the punto ad thats got the bloke arguing with his bird to the lyrics of "dont you want me baby"
and i quite like the bmw one where he tests his reflexes and the car jumps
remember the starsky and hutch one a few years ago for the almera(?) that was amusing.
from mags, the 106gti ads where funny. a slight bump in the road and a tiny 106 miles up in the air!!!
