Policeman aquitted of doing 160mph.....
Discussion
What message message does this send? I just heard it on Radio 1 news but can't find a link on BBC.co.uk.
I think it's scandelous and it shows that the police are now above the law.
Thank goodness I'm leaving this country in 8 weeks to live abroad. Sad that I feel that way.....
Just thought I should also add that he wasn't driving with his lights and siren and he spent most of his day driving around at speeds up to 160mph when not on call to an emergency.

We really shouldnt be suprised.
Preferential treatment and all that.
I could understand if he were on a 'shout' but to do it as idle fancy and then try to justify it should see him lose his job and pension.

A great example.....
General Public
I got 3 points and a £60 fine. On top of this my insurance will go up by about £50 per year for about 5 years so that equates to £310.
My crime.....doing 34mph in a 30mph zone.
Policeman
Got sent to court for doing 160mph in a 60-70mph zone. (A 90mph excess in speed).
Penalty. None.
I had very little respect for traffic police after my first set of points. I now have zero respect for them. Money grabbing theiving corrupt
. And here I was thinking we lived in a civilised society.

Would it have been better for him to wait for his first immediate response call and then have to master the car on his way to that call?
Facts:
He is an advanced police driver.
There is an exmeption available - for "police purposes".
Judge considered the use appropriate.
If people want to drive like policemen they should jack their job in and join the force. IMHO.

He claimed an exemption and the judge agreed with him. What you think or I think is immaterial. If everyone was trained to his level the roads would be a lot safer.
I like to drive fast and have known to accidentally exceed the speed limit at times. But I have also invested significant time and money to improve my driving standard.
Safe Speed issued the following PR at 13:43 this afternoon:
PR193: PC Milton not guilty despite 159mph
News: for immediate release
According to reports, PC Milton of Telford was found not guilty in court this morning despite admitting driving a Police car at 159mph on a public road.
Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign (www.safespeed.org.uk) comments: "Here's a clear and proper admission that in suitable circumstances even 159mph need not be dangerous. If 159 mph can be safe enough not to endanger the public, then surely this is a clear official admission that driving a few miles per hour over the speed limit isn't necessarily dangerous either."
"There is so much more to safe driving than speed. Any speed at all can be deadly, and any speed at all can be adequately safe if conditions are suitable."
"Road safety depends on drivers selecting safe and appropriate speeds according to the conditions and the vast majority of us do it well and do it safely.
But erroneous official messages have been undermining the process and deaths are going up. We have to get back to the policies that gave us the safest roads in the world in the first place, long before speed cameras and the pointless obsession with numerical speed."

No it would have been better if he took it to the track.

The fact that he's an "advanced police driver" means nothing. I'm sure there are people on this site with more ability than this guy yet if they told the police "I'm an advanced driver" they'd be laughed at.
There is no official exemption available when not responding to an emergency. You just made that up.
The judge is an idiot.

It's lucky I don't respect your opinion then isn't it.
