heartbroken: for sale, the pride of my collection
Discussion
hi all
I'm going to have to sell the pride of my geek-nerd-pistonhead-memorabilia collection.
so... i have a brand new, never fitted engine for a jaguar XJ220 (a v6, the epitome of dream cars for me. god how i love this thing). and I'm going to have to sell it and i need to ask your advice.
The engine was originally from an engineering firm local to me (Micro-Tec) who had been commissioned to machine the ID's etc on 8 of these engines, but who were being forced to close due to some rather questionable activities by their management. the order had been canceled by jaguar as it would not be completed to deadline (or, indeed at all), and 2 of the engines remained. Amongst the other items that were being sold off by the owners to try and recoup some of their losses was this engine and i managed to buy it for myself.
For the last 4 years i have had it in my study, on its own little stand, as, well, a sculpture really, as i think its quite quite beautiful, and being both a petrolhead and an engineer i find it inspiring to look at whilst I'm working. I'm sure it could be fitted as per its intended purpose to a vehicle (it is, after all, perfect) but as i say, i have used it as sculpture only. I'm sure that as such it would bring someone as much joy as it has me either in this form, in the form of its intended purpose, or indeed as perhaps some kind of coffee table or (somewhat sacrilegious) wine rack.
here are some photos:
so, what I'm wondering is, where should i advertise something like this for sale? ebay? Ph? does anyone know of a specialist forum for exotics or supercars or xj220's or anything? or does anyone know of anyone that might be interested in such a thing?
any info you could offer would be greatly appreciated gang.
many thanks in advance,
Matt.

Firstly sorry to hear your having to sell this beautifull object, secondly i know you'll be buying something similar to adorn your study soon.
I believe someone on here (VXR SIX?) is buying a XJ220, he was worried about the life of the engine, so maybe he'd want a spare.

Try speaking to someone about metro 6R4 engines. I seem to think that this is the same block, and a re-build costs a small fortune. probably more blown 6r4 engines than XJ220's. i would be interested in it for a coffee table, if the price was right, but think that the wife would kill me. If you do put it on e-bay let us know.

I wouldnt bother with e-bay, good chance you will never get the money. but I am sure someone on this site will make you a genuine offer for it, I know of 2 friends of mine who got ripped off on e-bay, problem is that they are squeeky clean, if the buyer doesnt pay, you loose out, not e-bay.
i know that it would be a nicer prospect to sell to a PHer. but as a seller you cannot get ripped off with ebay. you dont send the goods until you have the money. if the buyer doesnt pay then you report them to ebay and put it on again.
ps, i have some spare cash that i am planning on spending on furniture for my new house, but dont think my flat mates would be that happy if i got a V6 coffee table instead of beds for them!
