Ford Fusion. what the?????????
Discussion
It's basically a tall Fiesta. It's one of these "niche market" products (apparently)... designed for people who want the look and high driving position of a 4x4, but without the need for 4WD.
Based on a new Fiesta plan and most of the interior... it's actually not as tall in the metal as it looks in the pictures. Has a multitude of cubby-holes, a passenger seat that folds to become a table and probably a multitude of cup-holders.
It's aimed (apparently) at 20-30 somethings who want a rugged, urban car and lead a similar lifestyle...
er... "no thanks"
It's probably very competent if that's what you want (I've not driven it) but then, it doesn't exactly float my boat...
EDIT - Apologies, the propaganda seems to be affected me.

It is pretty much as Podie described, and I agree.....not quite sure where it fits in, as it probably priced more than a comparable spec Fiesta.
Major difference from new Fiesta is different lights and body panels, with revised dash and door trims.
Ment to be a more spacious Fiesta, with a more ground clearance, for all those urban obstacles.
Oh, and the front passenger seat base lifts up to reveal another cubby hole.
Wait till the Fusion + hits the streets.......now thats a motor to get you excited.

OK - so Ford build a tall car. It will just make road rage even worse having this thing clogging up my view on the motorway along with all the 4x4s and white vans. They should carry extra tax for getting in my line of sight........until I can blast past them!
Well done Ford, another piece of poo that will be consigned to the 'didn't quite make it' list of cars they have produced with short product life cycles. Henry will be spinning in his grave.

It's been made and designed becuase a large proportion of people tick the boxes in surveys saying they want more space, more cupholders, higher driving position etc etc...
Ford have on built what the consumer base has asked for...
Has anyone seen the advert for the Fusion. Young couple driving along enjoying themselves, a black roadster of some descrption zooms past them and they look out of the window and smile. Yeah right. More likely they look out of the window in envy. Then they get home to their square house and get out all smiley and happy. Yeah right. Happy to get out of that bl00dy ugly car.
Mind you, it's not as bad as the Yaris Verso (a.k.a. Popemobile).

ok its an ugly biffer and none of us would buy one (still no accounting for taste!). But
surely if the 'school run' market niche was populated with these instead of fecin Toyota LandCruisers then the roads would be a better place?
Just imagine if this is really a sucess and thousands realise that they dont need a car the size of the Argentinian National Debt to drive little Johnny to school and buy a Ford cos it looks like a 4x4 but is smaller and cheaper to run.
Wishful thinking?
