Ever since Cosmic and I bought the Elan we've been getting hassle from left, right and centre about having 4 cars. It doesn't matter that the market value of 3 of them added together is about the same as a top-of-the-range Vauxhall Vectra (spit!), we've still got 4 cars. Obviously we must sell one.

Why? Can someone enlighten me? All 4 fulfill different needs which couldn't be covered by the other 3 if one went.

Makes me so angry!

Seems perfectly reasonable to me. Your money, your choice IMHO.

Was in exactly the same boat. Nearly bought an M100 Elan as a Fourth Car...just couldn't do it as it would be third convertible

Who is giving you grief about four cars? Ask them how many pairs of shoes they have - works for me.

Confusious say "Never own more cars that you have space to park them."

Other than that if you can stand the constant dilemma of which one to drive who cares?

You could always argue that from an environmental view, that between you and cosmic you are permanently reducing the number of cars on the road at any one time by two........

MY brother's been getting grief from Mum recently:
A year go: 1970 Land Rover & Mk1 MR2
Six months ago: 1989 300ZX & Mk1 MR2
Now: Mk1 MR2 and another Mk1 MR2 (but this ones a T-bar)

Think yourself lucky if you can justify your cars! If people give you grief, just tell them that the market for xxx is really taking off now, its worth about twice what you paid it now...

4 cars is nothing! Hidden around our garden we have the following:
2x Citroen Dyanes
2x Maxis
2x Volvo 240s
Ford Cortina Mk3
Morris Minor van
Metro
Citroen 2CV
1938 Austin 7
a small dumper truck
And now the ones that actually work:
Peugoet 405 GRD
Peugeot 309 GRD
Volvo 360 GLE
Porsche 944 S2

When they stop working my Dad puts them at the end of the garden instead of selling or scrapping them

Yep I'm in the same boat, but compound the problem by adding three bikes and a van ! To be honest I don't seem to get much grief though simply because we can justify each one for different reasons (well to ourselves anyway) ignore it and get a bigger garage.

Jon, your choice mate. Value means nothing. Most Vectras are repmobiles anyway - who in their right mind would buy their own ?

Good on yer. I think the only situation where multiple car ownership would bother me would be if you lived next door to me (or in my road, to be honest) and you had various cars in different states of repair, resplenent with various "Tax in Post" appendage.

I was just illustrating the point that for the price of one poxy repmobile (albeit the most expensive in the range) you could have 3 very nice and individual cars.

My neighbours are going nuts about my cars:

Chevvy Blazer
BMW X5 (weekends mostly)
Vauxhall Brava Pickup
Vauxhall Astra (wifes car)
Vauxhall Astra Van
Vauxhall Combo Van
Ford Focus (wifes 2nd car)

They moan constantly about me taking all the parking places, and do I really need so many vehicles?

I don't see the problem, apart from a strange liking for Vauxhalls.

I must humbly admit that I too would be a little miffed if I was unable to park my car(s) because my neighbour was taking up all available spaces with theirs.

Fortunately we can accomodate all our cars within the boundaries of our own property, so are not using anybody else's spaces.

Company has a Vauxhall Fleet.

Got a bloody good deal from the dealer on the astra for the missus as they know me so well.

Neighbours attitude is - You can only drive one car at a time, why do you need 7?

Trouble is they are in their 80's and got nothing better to do than sit at the window and see which car Ive taken to work, and comment over the fence that I havent moved the focus for 10 days.

I can't see the prob. It's only when you get people like my nieghours that you have a problem. These guys have four cars, and not a decent motor amoung 'em!
They've got 2 beaten up mk1 micras, an old sunny and a pile or rust doing an impression of an alegro!
You have to honestly wonder why there hasn't been a parting of ways with at least one of those by now!

Ha ha. Me too, but mine are not shared so I feel I should get rid of one. But like JonRB says, the other 2 couldn't do the job of any one that left.

Im not using 'their' spaces - There are only 10 houses in my street, there is space to park 40-50 cars (using both sides of the street)

I tend to try to park directly outside my house or opposite, put 1 car in the driveway, and 1 across the driveway.

I didn't mean my comments personally, I was talking more generally. Peace, man!
