I bought a Ferrari 355 Spyder in May. Its been a great summer but I have other toys to play with thru winter. It seems that I can pay to have the car professionally stored for the winter and pay for this by suspending my insurance (obviously I will have to insure for fire & theft). Has anyone stored a car professionally for a few months? Please share experiences, good or bad.

I have the perfect solution. You can leave it in my garage. Obviously you'll need to leave the keys with me, just so I can start it up to keep the battery fresh, of course!

Seriously, though, have you thought of asking one of the classic car hire places (bespokes etc.) if they offer that kind of service?

The insurance you need is 'laid up' insurance, for storage I cannot help you, sorry.

Barry – miniman lives too far away for you to leave it with him. You should perhaps leave it with someone more local such as myself!

I think you may have to go to London to get secure storage – try ringing a few London Ferrari dealers – they may be able to help – or maybe do a search in google for 'car storage'.

I left my 328 at Kent High performance cars (www.khpc.co.uk) last winter after they'd serviced it. They do a storage for £100 per month which might include insurance (I can't remember). They don't advertise it as far as I know so you might need to give them a ring. They also do cheap car transport too, £120 from Derbyshire.

Try Secure Storage Southall in ummm Southall. They are professional car storage experts, a bit pricey though I think.

Matt.

I would avoid the london storage places as they are big bucks. Out of the smoke people do better deals. £100 a month is quite expensive you should be able to get fully insured, dehumidified storage that includes a run on a dry day once a month for less than that. Or best of all if you have a garage why don't you buy an Airflow chamber - much better than the Carcoon crap thing and connect a battery conditioner and take it our yourself on dry days?
