I bought one of their cheap and cheerful units. Supposedly 8,000BTU cooling capacity, but nowhere near that. Having said that, it cools my bedroom at night perfectly.

The split systems are much better, but they aren't portable, you have to drill holes in your wall and have an unsightly box stuck on the outside of your house...!

Given the choice, I'd take a split system as they are far better but for £100 which is what mine cost, it's perfect.

We had the Amcor unit, 12000btu IIRC, which was ok but noisy and no swing so the air went the same way all the time.

Now got the 12000btu indoor outdoor one, much better. No idea of cost to run but its the one i'd recommend IF you can do the hole in the wall without too much problem. If you wait til Weds and take ur granny along they'll get an extra 10% off at Supercentres only NOT at Warehouses.

You can work out the cost of running one of these very easily, you just need to know the wattage.

You're charged approx 10 pence for every kilowatt hour of electricity used. So if the device uses 1.5KW in continuous operation, thats going to cost you 15 pence per hour. 2KW = 20 pence per hour, and so on.

Get the biggest one you can because they're crap and you'll need a big one to do any good.

Woah, calm down.

That's what those pages are for, really - to calm me down by giving me somewhere to vent the anger that I am too polite to vent more directly at the cause of it. If a few people find it amusing as well, that's a bonus
