If you match the descrption below and the thought working as a 'permie' for a large company doesn't give nausea, contact me (note I'll be away next week so no worries if you don't hear from me):

" ... recruiting the technical skills that our client teams are telling us are in demand in the marketplace. At the moment, we are looking for people with 3 - 36 months’ experience in one or more of the following areas:

Siebel
Clearcase
Java/J2EE
Weblogic
SAP
.NET
Oracle
Seebeyond.

In addition:

An IT degree is preferred, but this is not essential. Other qualifications, such as an HND in Computing, Engineering etc are equally worth considering.
Full mobility is required (i.e., not all of the work is based in London).
Real experience in one of the following areas is important: Design, Programming/Configuration, Test, Maintenance & Fix Support

We are targeting candidates for our entry levels, Software Engineer and Senior Software Engineer, depending on experience. However, we do have a couple of opportunities for more senior resources (Team Leads and Managers) - so if you know someone who would fit let us know."

Edited to say it is not me recruiting.

I don't know if its just me with a chip on my shoulder, but referring to people as "resources" really gets my back up. Its one of the reasons I went freelance in fact.

Not having a go at you personally rthierry, I was talking more generally.

So is it just me, or does anyone else feel the same way?

Put it that way, I do get treated like this and I don't like it. So, I don't treat people like this myself.
I just received this in my mail box and thought some people could be interested.

Hi guys & Girls,

My Company has never been the same since we started calling Personnel - HR !

Calling people 'resources' is the first step to treating them like recources rather than individuals and that's why most of us are going up the wall working for big organisations...

I feel a joke about sheep-car racing coming on, but I'll try & overcome it....

It's amazing how many companies come out with this verbal crap - just sat through an all-hands meeting discussing large scale redundancies - at no point did they mention the words "redundancy", "layoffs".
Lots of talk of "Reduction In Force", "Realignment", "Restructuring" etc.

Terry Pratchett made a good quote when I saw him at a book signing :-

"The definition of cruelty and evil is treating people like objects. So the next time your Personnel manager calls you a resource... shoot him."

Made me laugh anyway!!

using big words is also about trying to sound impressive. hence they drop phrases like "control theory" and "synergy". this is mildly irritating... having a science background I always pondered argueing their use of the words stolen from science, but just can't be arsed!

My company renamed Human Resources to Human Capital, presumably because they want to treat us like fixed assets, use us up and write us off over a number of years

I would me more than happy to help you find some 'resources'.

Please let me know if there is a window for a new supplier.

Your friendly neighbourhood recruiter.

Class JonRB Class...

I went on a technical management course many years ago - good one too - the guy teaching it made for me a telling statement;

"Human Capital is like Financial Capital - rare commodity, use it wisely and don't let it (i.e. the people) get run down to zero"

Have Fun
