Having noticed alot of Nova and Max Power boys driving about it suddenly occurred to me that they all might be suffering from a state of mental illness. Let me explain...

I remember seeing a young kid driving a Vauxhall Nova down a dual carriage way. I overtook him, and glanced over only to see this kid with his seat at 45 degrees, seat belt 'pad' and one arm driving position. We were both within the speed limits, but it suddenly struck me that this young driver actually thought he was going 'fast'.

Speed itself is the minds perception of the rate of motion so if someone is percieving a high rate of speed than they are actually travelling, couldn't this be consider a state of mental 'illness'?

Could the sound of their tin can exhaust actually be forcing their minds into thinking that objects are travelling faster past them then they actually are?

Doesn't the fact that every time they change gear and the engine bogs down make them aware they aren't in a fast car?

Having owned two very slow cars (Old Mini & an old Beetle) I was at no time, when driving these cars, under the impression I could achieve any kind of performance from them. Maybe the fact that I grew up with my Dads Lister tuned Jaguar taught me from a young age what real acceleration and performance was all about.

Well I thought I would bring this point up... dissect, flame and discuss!

Well, if delusion is counted as a mental ilness, then unequivocally yes!

I prescribe a protracted course of electric shock therapy.

Most mental people would not be seen dead in a Nova, including me

1, The nation's youth is getting cleverer (allegedly)
2, Tony Blair loves pizza
3, The average IQ of a pizza shop employee is 6.3

Therefore every copy of M** Po*** is impregnated with a mixture of powerful drugs designed to beffudle its readers and reduce their IQs by 95% in order to maintain the workforce. This has the unfortunate side effect of making them believe that 200 pounds of fibreglass and a sub woofer will turn a Nova into a Ferrari beating supercar.
It's the only logical explanation

I think that Halfords is actually spraying highly addictive drugs on it's customers. Those particularly affected are the ones who look like they have the whole damn shop on their car.

Follow such a car and it will take you to Halfords (or a local crack dealer...)

I have another theory. That massive speakers that they put in their cars produces noise that makes the average nova kev think that its a sonic boom caused by breaking the sound barrier.

Too true, the local 'cruise' is always parked outside Halfords these days, since currys put a gate up (next to Halfords). Oh the joy of driving past in the grale and accelerating a bit for all of them to turn round bewildered wondereing what the hell it is

bless - leave off - these are the PHers of the future.

Anyway - new drivers tend to focus on a spot only 2 metres in front of the car... so yes they beleive they are going quickly

No they're not. They will grow up into people who either

a) ignore cars or only have a passing interest in them like most people

or

b) do the same customisation thing with a larger budget

I've seen the car shows....it must be true!

If they're happy. Leave 'em to it. Free country. etc.

Unfettered by taste ( ) they can go on and produce unique vehicles to their heart's content. I won't object. I just wouldn't do it myself...

not just the future but the present as well.

I've got a Nova - an 'E' reg 1.2 merit - unmodified except for the radio cassette. Most BOB drive Peugeot 106s in our area
