There was a brief news article on people in Scotland buying all the vegetable oil in the shops and sticking it in their derv cars, on the local news last night.

Did some investigation on the net and it appears you can run some cars on 100% veg/rape seed oil, although you may need to heat it up first. (you can buy kits from Germany)

Most diesels it appears can be run on a mix of veg oil and diesel with no side effects, apart from the exhaust fumes smelling of a mix between fish and chips and a donut stall!

Also, bosch pumps seem to be the better type as they are a piston type and can handle the thicker oil, whereas the lucas ones are not as good.
Also, it sounds to good to be true although I would never try it as its illegal and not worth the risk. Might as well use red diesel.

My question to you PH'ers is that I would have thought diesel has additives added, to protect the engine etc.?

Has anyone had any experience with this?

For Scotland read Wales..it would never work in Scotland as the Mars bars would clog the fuel filter.

Yep. I do.
The first time, I've tried this was in summer 2000. Went to the local discounter and bought a box with 15 litres vegetable oil for DM1.09/each.
Filled the car at the park yard and drove away.

I've posted more about that in the Ethanol thread

I've read in today's newspaper that running your car on veg/oil is illegal in the UK. Why?
