Can someone confirm whether or not a faulty cam belt variator on an Alfa 156 can lead to a cam belt failure?
Having major probs with an Alfa deal and requires some independent info. Cheers

is the cam belt variator the thing that keeps the tension in the cambelt at a certaain level?

if so it could lead to an expensive engine rebuild at worst as teh cambelt could slip off the teeth of the camshaft pulley or pulleys and effectively change when the valves are being opened. it is goes far enough the piston could meet with the valves and you will then have a large engine rebuild cost.

but if you are having probs with a alfa dealer goto another alfa arage to get it checked. a college had a 156 V6 with something wrong with the cam belt and he ended up paying or the warrenty company for a new engine.

Ask around to see if there's a better Alfa dealer in your area as in my experience they're mostly sh1te.
