Owning Your Own Car Company
Discussion
Morning all!
Being bored on the train this morning my mind wandered away to some strange place where work was something one joked about in the pub, cars were free and we were allowed, nay encouraged, to exact physical violence on traffic wardens, numpties and 'speed kills' propaganda-spreaders.
Anyway, I was thinking about what car I would ultimately like to own (McLaren F1 LM - forget the Enzo) and then it occured to me that Peter Wheeler is getting on a bit now, and one day he is going to have to retire. So, how about the next dream - to own your own car company?!
I've always been a car person and nearly ended up in F1 (studied Mechanical Engineering at Uni) but was coaxed away by the money to be made elsewhere. However, I've always wanted, one day, to design my own car, or at least have some input, and buying a company like TVR is probably the only way I would ever be able to do it - though I'm quite a way of having that kind of cash at the moment.
The point of this is that my next ambition, (several having been achieved and we always need to set ourselves new targets IMO
) is to one day own TVR. When I do, we shall see 600bhp Cerbera V8s, an aesthetically pleasing Tamora R and six-speed sequential boxes as standard. And they'll be reliable. And cheaper. Easy.
So, has this thought occured to other people? Does anyone harbour it as a secret ambition or is owning your dream car, but designed by someone else, enough for you?

Anyway word on approval for the garage you were telling me about? I'm taking the company responsible for the roadworks that damaged my car to the small claims court so hopefully I'll have the cash for the headlight conversion soon.

Yup, have had this exact ambition for a few years.
I did all the financial projections and org charts and execution plans for selling approx. 300 TVRs per year, and went around trying to raise funds.
To be viable (in the US at least) it would require funding of around $70 million. That's quite a large sum to piss away, at least that's what the vulture capitalists tell me as they politely usher me out the door...after watching billions evaporate in dot-bombs, they are a bit careful with their cash now.
