Sorry if this has been done before (sure it must have been) - but I can't see a search function.

Anyways, I've got some cash lying around (around £25K) and am looking to spend it on a car.
Criteria: - it must be interesting, quick and handle well. Other than that, I am open to suggestions.
I don't really do trackdays, and it will be a lightly used toy.

We currently have a BMW 330Ci Sport convertible, a JeEp Grand Cherokee and a BMW GS m/c.

Ideas?

I would consider a Honda NSX or a Maserati 3200 if I were in your shoes

I'd buy a Caterham or similar and have some cash left over.

Snodog, You need to be more specific. What use is the fun car to be? 2 seater? .......4 seater family but quick? You say not track.........but do you want almost track performance out of a day to day car? or something for your own solo "fun" drivin'

Andy, I've always thought that the: "Radical" could be be the basis of a real good "home build".

You could place almost any good body shape over that!

Isn’t that gorgeous new Alfa Romeo Brera going to start at 25k?

Interesting: Yep you could say that you may never take your eyes off it, certainly a head turner.

Quick: Top speed is limited to 155mph apparently.

Handle well: Yep, I would guess so!

Corvette Z06. Import one for about that, cheap to insure, cheap to run.

If you're not bothered about trackdays, then maybe the Caterhams/Radicals are perhaps not the best choices.

NSX fantastic option...true supercar with reliability and near-sensible running costs.

993's should be that sort of money...don't know if that's too sensible.

How about an M-Coupe - good ones are around £20k, it looks unusual and goes like stink!

And of course, yes TVR's should definitely be on the list...but seek a LOT of advice before buying an AJ-V8 or a Speed-6 engine'd one. (That's not a "don't", just a "proceed with caution"

If you want to pose how about a silver arrow SL55 AMG last of the old shape. a old Aston DB7 might cost a bit to run.

ok - more specific, 2 seater or 2+2 is all that's required. There's only me and the Mrs - well and our all our dogs.
This car is to be mostly for me to have fun in - possibily at "slightly" faster than the NSL.
I have a clean licence at the moment (points expired) and use a Valentine1 to try and keep it that way, but I do like to go quite quick.

How cool!

Love the colour!!!

If the Mrs is to come out in it quite a bit then perhaps something that she'd like to be seen getting out of...in which case a lot of the suggestions stand:-
- NSX
- TVR
- Esprit
- 993
- 'vette (Had a ride in Dubai in a Z05 soft-top with a full stainless sports exhaust system...god it sounded Most fantastic sound I've ever heard from a car, and I've worked at Gaydon.)

The Brera is nothing more than a refreshed GT from what I can see now, with a GM V6 in too, if you fork out for it.

2 seater £20k ish, TVR why not? Or S2000, Elise, older 911, XKR (to big?) but IMo if its just a weekend toy get an Atom or caterfield - or a Dax..

Engine is the same 3.2 V6 but is that a bad thing? I was under the impression it was a lovely engine (Even if it is slightly to powerful for the cars it has been in – if there is such a thing as “to powerful”). It’s based on a GM V6 but then that Elise uses a Rover engine, TVR’s V8 is also from Rover, I think the new “Speed six” is based on a BMW engine and I think that XKR engine is originally from Ford.

As for the whole this car is based on argument:
1.Some of the greatest cars ever made have been made from the spare parts bin.
2.It keeps the cost down.
3.Almost every company does it, some are using a revised Chapman designed chassis from the 1950’s to great acclaim.
