Floor Paint for the garage

I looked at this recently. Screwfix direct do some at much cheaper prices than B&Q. Bearing in mind it's the same company (well, same parent anyway) it's likely the same stuff.

We used concrete sealant then paint from B&Q - not super cheap, but it didn't break the bank either. We chose a nice putty colour instead of the usual grey so it matches the cream painted walls nicely (sad I know).

I have had B&Q paint on my garage floor for 4 years now it has had to put up with underbody welding and minor restoration of a rilly elf, quite a lot of work on an austin seven, minor welding on a morris minor and a mini, and has now just gone through the building up of a part completed gt6, and some welding and painting of the underside of the body. It is now not quite as pretty, but is still very much intact and it has helped to keep the dust down , so you should be OK with B&Q stuff.

I used some 2 pack stuff from Johnstones. It's very tough, provided the concrete it goes on is in good condition. Make sure that you get ALL the oil out of your concrete floor before you put the paint on, and thin the first coat a fair bit so it seeps in and bonds better.

A non-dusting floor is sooo much more pleasant to work on!

As a next step I can recommend a workbench!

Strangley, the only substance that has damaged my painted concrete was an egg that broke. When i scrapped it off it seemed to remove all the paint as well.

Really is a good idea to seal the floor first. I got some paint and sealant from Homebase and did it a few years ago. Could probably have done with two coats of the top coat.

Make sure the garage is well ventilated if you decide to seal the flood first, that stuff has some serious vapours

I've had a sand coloured floor paint from Wickes on the garage floor for 10 years - stil going strong. Took two coats - my tip is to wait until it is COMPLETELY dry before parking a car on it (avoids leaving a tread pattern in 4 spots on the floor - d'oh).

A cheaper & faster alternative is PVA mixed with water, in a bucket & poured over the garage floor - fine if you're happy with a shiny version of your current floor colour. Under a tenner & done in under 30 minutes for two coats!

i took that advice and looked at the screwfix site, having idled awaysome time in B&Q, Halfords etc and plumbed for the Screwfix sealant and paint. Ordered it Saturday afternoon, got home today and it was in the front hall! Very impressed and only £41.12 including delivery, how cool is that.

hmmm.... interesting. Anything parked in my garage for more than a few days results in a nice tyre tread shaped hole being lifted out of the paint.

Given the variety of cars that have gone in, I now have about 10 different missing paint spots.

Sounds like I need to do this again - I guess the last owner should have asked on PH before painting it!
