Big truck blocking the 3rd lane,Right or wrong
Discussion
You are driving down the Motorway making good progress, Up ahead are road works 3 lanes going down into 1, Fast lane and centre lane closing down into the left hand lane matrix is showing 50 MPH and brake lights are coming on,The left hand lane is stacking up with people who are getting over early, With 800 yards to go ( it could just as easily be 1800 yards)a artic as decided to block the 2 outside lanes and sit along side another truck knowing that when they get to the cones the truck on the inside will let him in.I am that truck driver, The reason for me doing this is to stop people jumping the que, A friend of mine whose average motorway speed is 90mph thinks i`m a effing pain, Let me know are you for or against.
You are wrong.............
The whole point of allowing the outside lanes to filter into the single lane of traffic is just that ........ filtering. If everyone went along to the start of the filtering cones and then went into the single lane one at a time, everyone would move far quicker. Who gives you the right to assume moving along to the end of the cones is queue jumping.

all you're doin gis dispacing the queue jumping to another place behind you ---> if you weren't there, the queue jumping would still go on wouldn't it?

that just makes a longer queue
But so what. You're on a motorway. You'll all get through the queue in the same amount of time, whether people merge 1 mile away from the obstruction, or merge 1 foot away.
There's nothing annoys me more (well, there are loads of things, but YKWIM) than a load of people patiently queueing in lanes 1 and 2, then some arrogant
wit comes steaming down the empty lane 3 and shoves in right at the end. It's just plain rude, no matter how you try and justify it with weak excuses. It's queue jumping. Plain and simple.nevpugh308 said:

why is it any different to me overtaking you a mile earlier, before the queue started? why do any roads have more than one lane?
if everyone stays in their lane and filters in turn, the roadworks make absolutely no difference to to your 'position in the queue' if that's how you see the traffic
I'm not arrogant because I choose to use common sense and drive to the natural point of merging. The reason the cones are set out in a stagger is so that we can merge in. If we were all supposed to get in line 1 mile earlier there'd be a big wall og cones prebenting us gradually filtering.
Mr Bling you idea of common sense might not be the same as everybody else, If people filtered in at 40 or 50 mph then the traffic would travel through the road works at a steady speed but if a small minority of drivers drive to the front of the que and then jump on the brakes the knock on effect means that somewere further back traffic is coming to a stand still. Good driving is all about lessening the danger and if the majority are getting over early then all you are doing is que jumping, Its common sense

So how come roadworks now have 'merge in turn' signs? it's effective use of the road and any notion of rudeness is just plain silly, it's been working just fine in Germany for years and is called the zipper system.
These 'kings of the highway who block the roads off are a bloody nuisance
Bling, come the revolution, you will merge with the others against the blood-stained wall, for your deeds.
I loathe
wits who feel perfectly smug, being ahead of the rest of us on the food chain, and queue of traffic, most of whom would realise, there is no point in squeezing the very last possible car-length out of the roadworks.
I think the truckies, are right on this one

problem is the zipper system doesn't work in this country, and I have seen why.
Picture the scene.
Clyde Tunnel, 2 lanes. One lane, left lane, closed.
The right hand lane of 2 is the road from Anniesland Cross. The Left hand land comes on from the Clydeside Expressway.
Me, in Truck, driving down from Anniesland cross. In front of mer, the Zipper system is working perfectly and everyone is flowing into the tunnel beautifully, i was happy as i would be able to carry my speed in, thus carry it out without dropping to many gears. Lovely
Until disaster strikes when Mrs Ignorant Decides she doesn't want to do the zipper system and shuts the gap on the car next to her, Mr Ignorant behind thinks, well if she didn't do it, I wont and shuts that gap. Now you have 2 cars in the Distress lane, who thought they had a gap, suddenly have to stop and theres your queue, this gap closure has now created a ripple effect which will stop every car going into the Tunnel from the expressway.
Now take the above scenario and place it onto the motorway, early morning, zipper effect works, by rush hour you get Mr Pushy deciding he wants into the queue a car early behind another car getting into his gap, the car in lane 1 now has to stop, car behind stops, suddenly a ripple runs down lane 1. Zipper system is now bolloxed, you now have stationary traffic in lane 1, and people slipping in from lane 2, the traffic in lane 1 is going nowhere, due to those slipping in in 2's and 3's so mr motorist/trucker/vandriver in lane 1 pulls out and blocks the lane, miraculously, lane 1 now starts moving.
The Zipper system works and is very effective, unfortunately there are 2 many ignorant people in this country for it to work!

Trucks aren't allowed even partially in the 3rd lane, therefore you're acting illegally.
Unless instructed by Roadsigns (roadworks, shut lanes etc) or Police officer or Escort for a wide load!
Or avoiding a collision in lane 2 naturally.

I tend to find that as the traffic is slowing to the usual 40 or 50 in the inside lane, and everyone is leaving adequate space between them (as I believe everyone, escpecially trucks do) then when I move along to the merging zone, slowing as I go to the same speed as everone else, I can merge safely and without the need to slam on my breaks. I don't see anything wrong with this style of driving, but hey, if you think this makes me an arrogant f**kwit then so be it. You're entitled tio your opinion, I'm entitle to mine. I'm sure you're not going to stop doing what you think is right, as I will not be changing theway I drive either.

But thats the zipper system, thats how it works!
The people I'm talking about are the ones who come roaring up the outside, get the cones, slam on the anchors, and in some cases could really do with a parachute as well, and the squeeze themselves into a gap that doesn't exist, causing everyone to bunch up!
The way you just described is exactly as it should be, and if everyone did it like that there wouldn't be a problem!

Mr Bling that sounds fair and as it happens i am thinking of stopping doing this to tell you the truth i don`t know why i bother its a thankless task and anyway i`m getting paid so it make no difference to me how long it takes me to get to the front of the que, If you can slot in near the cones without causeing the slow lane to alter its speed then you must be driving on different motorways then me
