I've been to a different European City for New Years Eve for as long as I can remember:- Prague, Antwerp, Barcelona, Lisbon, Tallinn, Madrid, Krakov, Lubljana and this year we're off to Riga.
Much better than staying in the UK as:-
The bars never shut.
There's always something going on in the old town squares.
The beer's cheaper.
The women are gorgeous!

Which one was best? They were all good! But I'd recommend anywhere Eastern European.

Cheers.... Andrew

Up until this week I would have recommended Bali.

Incredible place: spend the day on glorious beaches, celebrate in the evening with the most gentle and friendly race - the Balinese.

I always find New Years Eve so frustrating in this country (well at least in the Thames Valley anyway!)

You have to buy a ticket in advance to allow you entrance into a pub. You then can't move on cause you'd need a ticket for the next pub. They are always packed so you can't get a drink and if by some remote chance you manage to get a drink they charge you double the price cause it's New Years eve. Nice.

A couple of years ago I went to Ireland, now that was fantastic, completely and refreshingly different...

I'm with you on this one, New Years Eve is the biggest nightmare trying to have a 'good time' used to do the big name night club type thing which just got silly expensive, then you've got problems getting anywhere never mind getting home, even getting to the local can be a problem if it snows like one year, racegirl couldn't even make it off the drive without going arse over tit, the fly off somewhere sunny has always appealed, going just before christmas coming back in the new year so missing the whole holiday time nightmare!

The Southern Hemisphere for sure.

The last 3 have been Auckland, Sydney & Fiji, this year we've decided to have xmas and new year at home for a nice traditional cold crispy christmas. I'm begining to think it's a bad idea already.

Hi Jeremy, Haven't had a chance to say hi in ages!
I agree with you Bali is a lovely place, i would love to take Jon there. When i wa sliving in Singapore bali was 2 hours away, most expats visited there. Where did you stay?

From my experience, Cape Town tops the list by a very long way. And Riyadh is bottom by even more!!!

I bet Christmasses with you are a barrel of laughs

This year I may spend New Year with my lovely girlfriend in her home of Poznan (Poland) or maybe even with her family in Krakov, it depends on the shutdown days at work though as my holidays are running out. Failing that, me and all my mates are hiring a castle

It is a bad idea.. most here would give their right arm to be in the southern half at XMess/NooYear..

It's a load of jingle-balls in this country.. fer chrissakes.. if I had a time machine I'd go back and get those Slade fcukers before they recorded anything..

Book something before it's too late! By the time the christmas songs are on the radio it'll be too late - every seat out of the country for 2 weeks will be full..

ps Humbug!

If I had my way I'd spend the Christmas period in a non christian country, with a different calander

A mate had the right idea a few years ago, his empolyer paid him enough for a week away in the sun for working new years eve! Not a difficult choice

Dartmouth is fecking amazing to be honest. Everyone's in fancy dress getting mashed - snogged 57 girls one year in my youth. Might have to make the pilgrimage again methinks....

We always have a party at home with a few select mates then make our way down to the village square for the witching hour to do some pagan dancing round the christmas tree. Which just happens to be planted in the place where the last witch in England was burnt at the stake.

Most of my sad family are at this moment in Devon celebrating 'christmas comes early' at a holiday camp. One christmas each year is more than enough thank you.

I saw in the Millenium in Weymouth. The whole town was in fancy dress which was great. Trouble is the pub we were in shoved all people with kids in a brighly-lit side room which, to be frank, dampened the atmosphere a little.
They assumed that kids would ruin the Millenium New Year atmosphere for others, neglecting to think that only those with badly behaved kids would do this, and therefore condemning those with a well behaved kid (ie. us) to see in the New Year with people with badly behaved kids.

Still, who you are with is more important than where you are with things like that, and I was with Cosmic who was to become Mrs. JonRB.

Cheer up you miserable old sod. It may be over zealous and somewhat fake and cuntsumerist, but the fact remains that people are happier at Christmas. I love it, twinkley lights everywhere, Christmas CD in the car, it's fantastic, if you let it be.

I'll leave you to go and listen to some more Morrisey shall I?

Must have been fantastic!

Been to Singapore once already this year : dont think hubby will pay for another Singapore trip.
I guess we will have to stick with our original plan of a fancy dress New Years Bash with friends. Think JonRB will be happy as he wants it to be a BACK TO SCHOOL fancy dress!!!! can't see the attraction of men dressing up like JUST WILLIAM!
