I want to put some in the TR. There are quite a few different makes out there - Securon have been recommended and I've used them before. Anyone have any other pointers?

very difficult to compare harness manufactors imo, willans, sparco, TRS etc etc...... i would go with what you can afford, they are all going to be safer than a three point belt and unless you really need FIA approval its not really worth it. Also you should be perfectly safe with "button" clasps for road/trackday rather than the twisty aircraft style ones. having used two and three inch shoulder straps, i would always go with two, as they are much comfier and less irritating. finally, get some nice max power pads!

I find the rotary style release far far easier to live with. My recommendation would be 3" shoulder straps rather than 2". Definitely need to get some rollover protection first though.

Cheers,

Got the rollbar Carz, thanks. Can't believe I drove through the best part of my 20's without one, now.

Being a bit of a frustrated aviator I like the twisty aircraft mechanism, which the securon has. But it's also the most expensive set I've been quoted. I've seen Sparco sets at much less - and correspondingly I'm a bit worried about their quality. And image, since I saw them in Carnosewer or whatever it's called. Don't want you lot taking the piss...

Get some shoulder pads too, especially if you intend to transport the fairer sex about. (On that subject depending on their structure apparently harnesses can be a bit of a pain! on some vehicles it is possible to leave the original belt in as well as fit the harness, may be preferred by your partner).

Another check to make is to ensure that you can reach all the controls you need to when the harness is done up tight. In my TVR Taimar with the harness on, I couldn't reach the ignition switch (embarassing for those stalling moments), so I fitted a seperate battery master switch within reach (for those I'm upside down in a ditch and theres petrol everywhere and the motors still running moments!!!)

Safety Devices do some rather neat inertia reel 3 point harnesses (got some on the way for the mini), fully road legal, and may well be more appropriate for a road car? They also do every other type of harness you could think of...
