On Thursday on the Nordschleife - the EDO Porsche driven by Patrick Simon - set a new record of 7:15. I was there. Sport Auto were monitoring.

The previous record was 7:18 by a Donkey.

The unfortunate thing here is knowing what record they will claim to have broken - it was a road legal car - but only in the loosest sense. The EDO Porsche is an extreme race car - it would be almost unuseable on the road and it is a one-off, not a production car (although based on, presumably, a 996 RSR race car).

It was on pukka road tyres - which must have lost them loads of time.

I can only assume that Sport Auto will be quoting two lap records:
- road legal (EDO Porsche 7:15)
- production car (Porsche Carrera GT 7:32)

It seems that Donkey will be back in a few weeks to reclaim the record.

Either way - it was a very quick lap, congrats to them.

Donkey are looking at sub 7:10 apparently.

Anyone want to speculate what the limit of road-legal tyres round the Ring might be?

Surely tyres is the limiting factor - a proper race car can beat 7 minutes easily (on slicks).

Road legal and modified(/non-production) seems a good category for it
