I was searching for info on the Motorists Action Party, and I came across this, It makes you weep
Just look at the emotive action, and underhand ways employed.

Which is exactly why when the next anti-road protests start near us, I'll be there protesting in favour of the roads and against dog on a string smellies (who I'd quite like to flay and burn)..

We need to show that there *is* support for road building for the vegetablairians will get their way..

Either way, I don't think Billy Liar's lot have got the bottle for such a battle against the enviro-loons - that's why they are studiously avoiding engaging in any road building programmes..

How about a mass convoy of JCBs over the smellies' heads?

Critical mass cycle events are actually quite a good laugh. It's generally not anti car (at least the York ones weren't), but pro-alternatives (bike/bus/scooter/etc).

I my experience, most drivers were pretty ok about it......

We also used to find cars parked in clearly marked bike lanes. Simply get the bikes nice and muddy and roll over the roof. Mr Fat Cat 7 series BMW returns to find 8 sets of tyre traces over his shiny car. Perhaps he doesn't do it again...

So if we see a cyclist on the pavement, are we within our rights to push them into the nearest hedge and paint their bike pink??

I am a keen cyclist, living in Cambridge, it's part of the culture, and its often by far the fastest means of transport around the city.

I am, as I'm sure most of us would be, the kind of cyclist we all love to hate. Its the PH'er in me wanting to conserve momentum for max' exit speed... etc.

Riding in a "crippling mass" crowd sounds like hell to me. I'd probably actually feel guilty about all the people that would be pi$$ed off! I know I would be...

If someone ran their bike, muddy or otherwise, over Twink or Freddie I'm pretty sure my sense of humour, robust as it, might fail...

...broken bones would ensue!

It's the old story.

They don't want people to use vehicles, but they will still want deliveries, want the shops to have stock and people to serve them, want doctors & nurses in the hospitals, and want the whole economy to contuinue to grow so they can educate their children and claim the dole.

Usual double standards of the vegetarian with leather shoes.

Yup. If you're riding on the pavement you deserve everything you get.

I don't even ride down cycle lanes because people treat them as foot paths, and I'm usually doing 20mph+. A bike at that speed *hurts*.

So I tend to play with the cars, and at commute time it's ok (cars are slower than me in traffic).

I'd rather be out on the hills though....

how in the hell did they catch you Mel???

I'm the cyclist we all love to hate the one who ignores pedestrian only traffic lights uses the pavement at will, wrong way up one way street etc etc.
Never crashed on the public highway and never inconveinienced anyone on the road yet. It's all about common sense (which I fear is extinct)

However I still have to dice with cars so I reserve the right to jump onto the pavement at any time.
Better a slightly brusied pedestrian than a totally flat me.

That's the cyclist I'm talking about...

...that's me!

With sharpened the insticts of also being a driver you automatically know where to look, I've never had an accident either. Very much like driving, when you ride hard you are totally focused, looking for your line through the traffic.

Unlike the countless oriental language students who wobble along in daze, it's no wonder that at least three get killed each summer in Cambridge.

Far from endorsing these pointless "congestion mass" rides. Can't we improve the freedoms of both the motorist and cyclists by insisting on a compulsary cycling proficiency test before you can your push bike on the road. There is for any other vehicle. That way we wouldn't end up with numptie cyclists putting themselves in dangerous situations then complaining when they get mowed down by an inocent driver.

As for Andy and me, yes we probablly do take some risks, but they're all calculated, and much like you wouldn't drive into certain situations for fear of damaging your car, on a bike the the potential for damage are all the more imeadiate and personal.

I know it's getting a bit off the point of the thread but I can see where it will going to be going before long.
