Welcome to the proceedings, Paws.
Just shooting from the hip - as I have no idea what's your poison - have you ever considered a Honda V-Tec engined steed?
Only yesterday I witnessed a gaggle of young scamps thorougly caning one of them there new Civic Type R contraptions. A tidy shape, in shining black, it was well and truly on cam and was fairly flying; the sound was a microcosm of F355...I checked the price out in the back of one of the mags and was amazed to see how relatively inexpensive these are.
Just a thought. Ok, feel free to vocalise vociferously.

would be a nice little hot hatch for a run around but i'd rather(want)to be putting something in the caterham that sounds like and F1 and has a sequential box. What do you think of the motorcycle engine/car mix?Perhaps i've been locked away in the garage tooo long and need to get out more eh!
By the sounds of you, you'll find like minded types on here!
One of my fanasty cars would be a mini 1001cc with an 'a'series that could rev 11k+, specific output 120+bhp/l. probably physically imposible, but no one would have a go at me for suggestig it.
There is a short string relating to the Civic Type 'r' somwhere round here (try my profile
), and plenty on bike-engined cars. Kit car section would be a good place to start.
Happy Hunting

Hi there,
being an ultima nut and having that feeling that there ain't much that can touch me on the street, I was amazed watching a program on Motors channel, of the Jap car drag racing in American. They where all street driven cars. But Civic's ( yes the but of more than a few old fart jokes!! ) where pulling 9 sec standing 1/4's. I would have expected the supra / skyline's to be quick, but not the Civic and Corola brigade.
Hope i never meet them over here, that would be embarasing.
PS they where still only running 2.0L jap engines.
With turbos nitrus etc.

Paws, as an ex-Elise thrasher, I have much empathy for the jay cloth fraternity, i.e. the Caterham Crew.
Obviously, the whole Megabusa and derivations thereof thing HAS to be 'a good thing' but I'm not sure my cahoonies would be big enough to marry the featherweight frame with monster bike power approach; at least off track.
But yes, I guess one has to broadly sanction such antics. Little could compare, Ultimas excepted, natch.

cheers, what an awsome thought that would be.Rover Groups little tyke with that sort of engine and horse power.Oh the sweet sound of an engine at full chat.
Just a bizzare idea in the quest for mechanical music but what about....a kawasaki bike engine in a zxr400 revs to just under 15000rpm and sounds great. However, they only put out about 60hp so i think i'd need to bolt 2 together to make it worthwhile.Or 4 whilst i'm in the mood?

Howdy!
If you want an easy 11k+ in a car, have you considered a rotary? Try a 12A parallel port in a Rx-3 or gen 1 Rx-7, fully tuned will pull 16k, even with road tuning 13 thou is accesible. It might not last that long and be a complete pig to drive on the road but its bloody awesome and relatively cheap while it lasts!
(as you can see i am a highly biased and one eyed individual
