Come on you PH's vote for Brunel - whatever car you drive a proper Engineer designed it (unless Hyundai) - what GB good at Engineering... Never mind that - do you really want 'Lady?' Di to be the greatest Briton, or some arty farty called Will S.. Get on that phone 090 1122 1066 - don't normally indulge in this c**p but this seems worthwhile if rite result can be achieved/contrived - JC has convinced me.

Done. As the newspaper said, I can't see anyone else getting the same quality of backing as Jeremy did.
Quality show I thought.
Did you see Jon Snow's voting panel afterwards, Brunel jumped from 5 to 3 I think but Brunel is now number 1 among women voters - what's that all about then?

Far better showing from JC than Top Gear (ducks for cover).

You're damn right Brunel should win.
But of course I would say that I'm a student engineer.

Of course of more importance Lady Di shouldn't win. She was a good person, nobody can deny that, but the greatest Briton ever?? Methinks not.
She shouldn't have made the top ten there were other more worthy figures. Lets just hope she doesn't win it or it will reflect badly on the level of mass media manipulation of the uneducated masses.....

Just my 2ps worth

Agree vote for the engineer, without them we'd stil be driving around in a pony and trap on dirt roads.
Close call with the likes of Newton and possibily Nelson though.

I do think that Brunel should win (just because you all say so, as I haven't actually watched this 'TV program' yet).. so I'm off to use someone elses phone....

Nothing moves without an Engineer!

Vote Brunel.

Excellant program, I wish it was longer so they could go into more detail.

Anyone know of any good books (or video documentries) to read that cover Brunel and his life in more detail?

Agree that Brunel is worthy of the title.

Surprised to see Clarkson praising an engineer though. After all, this is the man who just a few days earlier was slagging off F1 technicians and saying he'd like to shoot them in the back of the head...

Brunel was French.

How can he be French?

Half French at most. Born in Portsmouth, and lived as an Englishman.

He could not have been French, as he was not afraid of hard work!

A worthy contender for sure but just wait until some of the others get proposed; the punters are all too fickle to appreciate and therefore remember this chap.

Indeed, I'm quite sure that once Diana has had the treatment, she will beat IK.

But Churchill will win.

Maybe if he hadn't been half french he would have used the same guage railway track as everybody else.

It's Churchill or Nelson for me. If Diana get's it I'm emigrating.

He ended up using the same gauge that already existed in the UK on the existing (at the time) industrial lines, no?

He wanted to change to 'his' idea, but could not.

Is not the UK rail gauge different to the rest of the EU anyway, thats half the problem with Eurostar / Euro tunnel trains.

But agree, I don't think he will end up winning. He does not spring to mind instantly for enough of the public.

As long as it is not Diana!

Voted for Nelson. Brunel was a free engineer partly due to Nelson.

Why should Churchill get it?
Okay, Okay... So he was the prime-minister during the war, blah blah blah, but surely he did just what anyone would have done if they were prime-minister (Blair excluded).

Excellent show, had no idea that Brunel built all that stuff!

For me its a close one between Darwin, Churchill and Brunel.

I imagine though that Churchill will win with Diana a close second. How people can compare a great great great man with a horse wearing mascara I have no idea.

Matt.

In that case I vote for Adam (of 'Adam and Eve' fame), without him, nobody else would exist!
