No - not the kind the hunger strikers in the Maze prison engaged in.. but a similarly unpleasant course of defiance and disobedience...

I'm thinking about buying a knackered old Volvo, getting it liveried up with some large "Speed Kills" stuff and driving everywhere at half the speed limit with my fog lights on.

I'm so so sick of the whole ferkin thing. I know that spending all day on here focuses me unduly on the whole speed kills/retards-rule phenomenon, but it's close to my heart and I intend to resist and disobey at every turn..

What sayeth ye? (other than get out of my ferkin way obviously )

It's only the cost of another bloody insurance policy, road tax and MOT that's stopping me doing something similar with a trabant.

Perhaps you could leave your right indicator on constantly too.....

And have one of those annoying 'nodding dogs' in the rear window......

I think someone's beaten you to it, I followed a Volvo on Tuesday that had some homemade notices in the rear window printed on bits of A4 paper. They said "KEEP BACK" on the left hand side and "ONLY A FOOL BREAKS THE TWO SECOND RULE" on the right hand side.

Unfortunately the text was too small and it was wet so I had to drive really close to him and use my main beam to read them.

I think I know that car. Did it have a pork pie hat on the parcel shelf, a faded umbrella and a 1939 road atlas of the UK?? Mr Motorist of the Year 1958??

Grandad? You're still alive?!

How about a national Speed (doesn't) Kill day where we all go out in our best motor and travel at half the speed limit - preferably side by side down motorways etc. Why buy a car for something we can do in the existing vehicles ?

Travelling three abreast up the entire length of the M1 exactly AT the speed limit would get the point across far more effectively, because there could be no way that you'd be pulled over for obstructing traffic or whatever without exposing the current speed limit as the utter sham which it is.

Bloody marvellous Idea..
When, Where?? M25 that should bugger the system and we may have to travel at 40mph through the variable speed bit

How about Dec 2 meet 07:30 at Clacket Lane Services. Groups of 6 cars to depart at 20 minute intervals (3 abreast and 4 seconds apart). Repeat from South Mimms with identical timings.

After about a hour I think there would be quite enough TV coverage esp if we kept the speed down ! How long to grid lock ?

CarZee - See what you have started ?

I'm well up for that, 2nd December South Mimms it is. Exactly 70mph mind, no slower if we can help it, or the point will be lost - people will think we are actually trying to lower the speed limit or something. What's the average speed on there at that time of day? We'll all look a bit silly if we have to sit there at fifty with the rest of the numpties!

Game on - I'll be up for that

Phew - for a minute there I thought I might have to honour my pledge to buy a Volvo

One thing guys...

Do not, if you tell anyone, mention pistonheads unless Ted has authorised us to associate this event with PH.

Which I doubt he will - wouldn't want the site associated with hooligans, now.. OTOH no publicity is bad publicity, eh Ted?

2nd Dec is fine by me.

Maybe if Ted's a little unhappy we can open a Yahoo group or something for this...
