:) Most Memorable Journey
Discussion
It has to be the road to St Moritz from the North (Chur or some name like that). Execellent. Oh, the Sion pass between Italy and Switzerland is nice too ... tunnels, wide roads lots of overtaking possibilities .. perfick TVR stuff. Actually, nearly all the mountain passes in the Alps are wikked in my book.
... or anywhere in rural Wales and Scotland early on a Sunday morning.

Through the night from Interlaken in Switzerland to MonteCarlo in my first car an 850 mini. Had a mega race with an Italian in a Fiat Uno through the Alps (You don't need 300bhp to have a mega race - especially if it's mostly downhill!). We both accidentally slid through a border checkpoint sideways and were just cheered on by the Italian border cops.

I did my favourite journey from
Frankfurt - Schwarzwald - Zürich - Gstaad - Mont Blanc - Annecy - Lyon - Sea Alps - St Tropez - Toulouse - Andorra - Biarritz - Biscaya up - back to Switzerland - Lac Leman/Geneve - Freiburg - Saarbrücken - Frankfurt
4.000kms in four weeks with a friend and a Landrover 88"
Visited a lot of friends in Switzerland and France a stood about one to three days each place. That was the most exciting tour I've ever had, especially because this Landrover was my first car, and I had it just a week before I started. I had no idea how reliable it was, but it didn't disappointed us, except for a small fuel pipe leak which was fixed by a french Rover garage for free! Merci beaucoup encore, amis!
I know, I can't repeat the same experience, but I'll go for a similar trip one day!

A long time ago (feels like it now), in my 3 month old Jag XJS -
Driving down from the Isle of Skye in the evening - I was planning on stopping at a B&B once I was part way down, but the traffic disappeared, and it just got better and better - ended up stopping when I got to Birmingham!

Most of the Alpine passes are top but the Futa pass which runs from Florence to Bologna in Italy is the Dog's b
s.
Only drove it once in a car (Fiesta 950!
) but have experienced it many times on a bike and it is the best road in the world bar none (this is the road that Ducati, Ferrari and Lamborghini use as a development/test run!) it runs through the Appenine mountains, through ski-resorts etc and was, I believe, part of the "Mille Miglia" - Hairpins, switchbacks etc and no f
g Gatso's.
Every keen driver/rider must do this road before they die!

Sounds good - how does it compare to Stelvio?? - Taking Lotus down to Italy next year, was goin to do Stelvio, but been there - got tee shirt.
clanger, when you get down there, you should try the Rallye MonteCarlo segment through the French sea alpes.
Doing them in the Landrover then, we wished to have a short ratio-sportscar

If you're in a Lotus you'll love it, I'm not familiar with Stelvio but the Futa is great (long way from the Alps though) some of it is almost as smooth as a race track but other bits are as rough as a bear's arse, what time of year you going as it gets a bit busy (and icy) during winter (ski-season) and overtaking is tricky in places, I suppose best bet is early morning in the summer, just watch out for the Ducati test-riders!(fcuking mentalists!)
Do bikes count? East London (South Africa) to Johannesburg. 800-odd miles in a day on a Kawasaki 750 Turbo in 1986. In winter. Without a map. Flat out across the Orange Free state for several hours, amazing roads, brilliant scenery, no Police and barely another human being. Averaged 140 mph between three fuel stops! Had to keep an eye out for some interesting wildlife though!
