Next month, a group of Touring Cars will thunder through the streets of Milton Keynes, the town renowned for its roundabouts and concrete cows. They'll stage a high-speed city centre demonstration on the evening of Thursday 15 September along Avebury Boulevard, from 7.00pm.

For over an hour, drivers will demonstrate their cars before tackling a roundabout and returning on the opposite carriageway between MK's Xscape leisure complex and thecentre:mk’s food centre.

Spectator viewing for the evening street race is free and the drivers will be available to give autographs outside Xscape. All nine BTCC teams have pledged to field a car. Also running will be a car from the BTCC’s supporting championships, from BMW, Porsche, Renault and Seat.

Cars from the BTCC and the support series will also be on display in Middleton Hall at thecentre:mk throughout the day from 9am onwards. Drivers will meet shoppers for autographs and photographs, and tickets for the next BTCC race will also be on sale.

The wheeze is designed to publicise the season's penultimate BTCC race meeting on 17-18 September at the nearby Silverstone circuit.

Should wake up the cows anyway...

Is it just the way I'm reading it or does that sound like an hour of "It's got quite a nice glove box, no it only comes with one windscreen wiper, the other one hasn't fallen off" before nipping up to the roundabout and back?

Not sure I'd regard that as bad though?

Might nip over myself if I can face the Chavs & Chavettes...

I think they did a run over the Forth road bridge last week. That would have been nice to see. The (Imaginary) race from the lights (toll booth) is always a highlight im a normal car.

Apparently they have a modified pit stop especially for Milton Keynes.

The touring cars stop and the first chav to nick all the wheels in the quickest time gets a BTCC baseball cap

Depends on your definition of a City. The age old definition used to be, to qualify as a City, it had to have a Cathedral. If that is still valid, then yes it is a City. They built one, allegedly to fulfill that very requirement !!!

AFAIK, though, it's not been approved as a city by the government council thing which approves cities. It's been submitted for city status (for which you need a cathedral), but not been approved as of yet.

(I think!)
