Drivers Dies in Police Chase

just heard that a driver had plunged to his death off a 60ft cliff on the isle of whight (dont know how to spell). police deflated his tires and he went off the cliff, i dont know what the circumstance are.

But i thought that if there was any danger in anyone dying in a police chase the police were ment to call the chase off or scale down and reduce the risks to them the other driver and the public???/

Let's not get all PC about this. If a stinger was being used then the stupid pratt was refusing to stop. Saves on court fees and prison if he wants to kill himself instead.

Agree with Ted, but there have been at least 2 'tragedies' now where stingers have apparently been involved..

Don't get me wrong - it's the fault of no-one but the guy refusing to stop, but I would have thought that if people are dying when these things are deployed, the strategy might just be flawed..

But then we don't really have many facts of the case either way..

I was just commenting because in the shopping centre in my old town yesterday they were going on about police dont get involved in chases now cause it increases the roads fatalities (which they want to keep down) and just in most MPV's (motorway Persute vehicles) now is technology to photograph just like a speed camera and prosecute through the post... got the info leaflets here.

i will scan em in when i have unpacked my scanner..

Good! If it was always fatal rather than occasionally, then the might stop more often. If you've got nothing to hide, there's no reason not to.

Whilst I agree that this is this fellas fault and he got what he deserved it does raise an interesting question.

What if he had lost control and rather than killing only himself what if he had gone careering into a primary school or a bus stop full of kids?

Though I am sure there are guidelines as to when to use it and when not to thinking about it.

From the report, it looks like he drove off the cliff deliberately... thought about the prospect of sharing a cell with Jeffrey Archer and chose the painless option.

It could be seen by the PC brigade as a needless death. But unfortunately I have NO sympathy with the person. Its like the relatives of a person shot by the police sometime ago during a armed robbery.... they claimed "he didnt ask to be shot" - well, wake up and smell the coffee. If you wander around with a gun robbing banks - expect to be killed.

Get chased by the police - expect to crash. If you loose your life - well it eases the load on the prison system doesnt it? Better off without this type of person in our crime infested world.... Harsh, but true.

I dont know exactly what happened apart from what is in the report. Speculating on the events though, I would think that if he had been stingered, he would'nt have been traveling at much more than about 30 mph and the article says he went off the road and into the needles pleasure park where he went onto the grass area.

I may be wrong, but it sounds a though he was hell bent on getting away and fd up in a big way in the dark ("Oh sh1t, where has terra firma gone")

Certainly, high speed in this case would not have been an issue until he started his descent.
