Whilst at Yeovilton on saturday I picked up a 1:24 model of the Lancia 037 that ran in the 1983 Acropolis rally.

Features -
142 plastic pieces attached to sprue trees.
Authentic two-piece body is molded in white.
Clear pieces included for windshield, windows and lights.
Realistic white interior with roll bar and racing seats.
Detailed suspension.
Realistic reproduction of chassis.
Authentic mid-engine design.
Realistic Pirelli tires.
Martini racing team waterslide decals for Rohrl/Geistdorfer or Alen/ Kivimaki driver combinations.
Clear pictorial instructions.

Its gonna look an absolute mess by the time ive finished making it but it should be fun :)

So its kind of like an airfix model just of a car?

What company makes it? I wouldnt mind something like that but all I can find are die-cast ones ready made.

There are thousands of car kits around. I had one of a BMW E30 Hartge H26 that I managed to bodge, but was fun making it

Word of advice-

If it looks like a right mess when you've finished making it, and you're disappointed with your efforts, mix up some 'mud' (a loose mixture of brown, dark green and black paint), find a wide-bristled brush, and flick the 'mud' at the model, from the wheelarches and the front valance. If you're really going for it, spatter a bit on the windscreen and mop off the windscreen wiper arcs before it's dried.

I did it with a Peugoet 205 T16 model I made a few years ago and it looks really good.

You can get them from pretty much any model shop. I find the die-cast kits come out better (metal-bodied cars are more realistic-looking in terms of finish and also easier to detail).

This is the one I bought (not off the web - in a shop at the show). There look to be lots of providers -

Kit Car Build he says.. so theres me getting my hopes up of someone giving us the story of how they are going to fund, source parts and gain valuable inside knowledge on how to weld, fabricate, and trim. Reporting in weekly installments the lows and highs whilst they spend the next 2 years in their garage and lovingly hand-craft an Ultima or a Westerham

Instead we get AIRFIX KIT

Surely not as much fun as a Tamiya / HPI Car which you can then break at high speed :-D

Worst part is you effectivly write the cars off quite easily as the kits cost £70 ish and then you have to buy the one or two parts you break as part of a £20 kit !!

RIP :-)

The best part is doing the shell and spray painting it etc
