How many truely BRITISH carmarques are left?
Discussion
Soo waiting for the Caterham is a car maker and not a kit builder comment.
But their are a few but the amount is going down.
Also If you add CaterVans you got to add Tiger, Westfield, Mk, unltimas etc.. as they all sell factory cars and are british owned and built

TVR is still a british company.
Er. Right. So does that mean Jaguar, Aston Martin, Lotus are all still British then ?
That is a bit different. Foreign car companies bought those marques. It just so happens NS is russian. Does not change the nationality of the marque. Nothing different.
Is chelsea a foreign football team? If so, then it's players would not be allowed to play for the English squad. Same thing.

..and anyway, PW was from Yorkshire, and therefore
whilst in his ownership TVR was technically not
British, but part of God's Own Country. Probably.

Why does PW being from Yorkshire make TVR Scottish?
I thought Yorkshire was in Scotland.
Frankly mate, I'm from Cornwall, live in
Berkshire, and hold true to the faith
that anything north of Aylesbury is part of
the Third World.
Edited: to get back on topic, how much are
Nobles built in SA, how much in the UK?

At the risk of stirring here, just how much does it matter these days?
Lamborghini is now owned by ze Germans, purveyors of some of the world's most efficient, technologically advanced, altogether most soul-less barges on the planet. But I still want a Murcielago.
Smolenski's next acquisition after TVR was Italian bike maker Benelli. To my eye, they still make Italian bikes, as much as TVR still make British cars.
Yes it is a shame that the money isn't coming from the UK anymore, but it's not unique to the motor industry - the last 6 months have seen foreign takeover after foreign takeover, and the city is starting to make some worried noises about it. Truth is, as long as the motor industry is left out to dry by the powers that be in this country, it's best hope is foreign investment. How many British-based companies and billionaires can you name who really love cars and would buy a car company to let it make the best cars it possibly can? I can't think of many.

Nissan's British then ? & Toyota ?
Both Nissan & Toyota are Japanese corporations
with UK manufacturing subsiduaries. (You
probably knew that already...)
Different kettle of different fish.
