Did you own?

As a kid, I had a couple of Wolfe Racing single seaters, a Capri and an Escort Mexico. I had had more but can't readily remember them.

Imagine my delight when my wife recently gave birth to a boy. I may just be purchasing a new set very soon! :silly:

i bought myself a set when i was 21, cos i always wanted one but always had train sets when i was growing up (how curious: i never wanted a train set, but my dad always did. whaddya know? every year, whammo! more trains). so, me and the boys all chipped in and made the biggest set ever, in the world, ever. it ran all around the house, including down the stairs and at one point around the toilet seat. it was ace. my missus was less keen obviously. especially when she was trying to have a wee.

my car was the F40 and it was frankly unbeatable. in fact, even that time we set fire to the cars and watched them racing around in the dark it still won. between us we had a pork 959, two x F40's, a jaguar xj220, two of those comedic horses with riders (they burn nice), a load of dtms Opel racers and a pug 306 (think my mate was trying to make a point about racing pedigree winning out over heavy finance, but forgot the age old rules of a) its not real, its just scalextric and b) i always cheat and am not beyond throwing another car out of the window to win.). great days, happy memories. high insurance premiums.

scalextric rules. hell, I'm gonna go play now. might even get the scalextric out later too.

Mrs K bought me a set a couple of Christmas's back

I immediately went out and bought another set to make a longer track

One of my daughters discovered it and started racing me on it

She went out and bought a le mans style car of her own with her pocket money.

She started wiping the floor with me with that car

Don't let her play any more

Sounds familiar - Not only that but my Dad insisted that we had the 00 guage.

Thats it. It was so small that you had to use a magnifying glass to see what was happening.

my brother used to get scalextric for christmas, and I'd get the Sindy dolls, but I would always end up playing with the cars.

I bought my husband the TVR set a few years ago, we had the track going all over the lounge, it was great for a while, but after a few weeks it became a bit of an eyesore, and I couldn't vaccuum properly Its been in the loft since, but I might go and get it now and set it up before he comes home
(and I'll get some extra practice in too)

My favorites were the pair of Minis (real minis) and the Lancia S3 Martini rally car. That was a monster.

My dad always bought me trains as well.

Wow, the memories! My brother had that Mexico, fast as funk and if I remember made a slightly odd noise compared to the others?

Wasn't as fast as the XR3i that he had though, we even stripped it and added blue-tack in certain area's to aid weight distribution!

My favourite car was my Capri with lights! Sideways everywhere and was the loudest Scalextric car I'd ever heard!

I had quite a few cars when I was younger. We used plasticene (sp?) to adjust the weight balance as it's more dense than blue tac. The porsche 935 used to handle really well, but was fairly heavy so not as quick. I also had the 6 wheel renault, with the 4 at the front. Weird looking thing.

Right! Now we're talking. At last a proepr thread.

I had:

2 Porsche 911 Turbo, in Gold and Silver (with working headlights)
2 Metros ("mighty Metros" set- called that without any irony at all
Mk 3 escort rally car
"track flash" stupidly quick car, with no weight. Based on an F1 car

my persoanl favourite: Rover SD1, police livery, with flashing blue light and siren. Great, great car

I am amazed what you can buy these days, however. Very exciting.

Scalextric pistonheads race, anyone?

I still have:

A pair of XR3i's
An Audi Quattro - with a braid pickup that rotates through 180 degrees to allow you to "tail slide" and a pair of elastic bands between the front and rear wheels to give it "4 wheel drive"

A merc 190 SRS - light weight body changable gears and a MASSIVE magnet!

Ayrton Senna Diablo

Panasonic Escort Cosworth

People like SCX, Ninco, Pink Car and Scalextric themselves are running off reroductions of many of the classic Scalextric cars from the past. I've managed to acquire an Auto Union, an Austin Healy 3000, a Vanwall and a Maserati 250F.

This thread is great, what a blast from the past - I had exactly these cars too - if I remember the 4 wheel drive was rubbish - I disconnected mine.
