Car Jacking Scumbags
Discussion
Just had a call from my old man telling me about his attempted car jacking last night.
He suspects he was followed to his favourite curry house, because he remembers passing a Jag en route which he thinks parked opposite him.
When he'd filled his gut with bombays finest he walked to his car to drive the final mile to his house and was attacked by 3 people in balaclavas. Fortunately he always locks his doors, but they ready for that and attempted to smash the drivers window with a metal pole. Fortunately he managed to perform a 3 pointer while the windows were taking a pounding and got away. Went to the police station and reported it.
Had to leave his car at the station for forensics to look for prints.
This morning he picks it up and asks about what he could do in future if he suspects he's being followed (it's the second time in a year this has happened to him - he lives in a little town in North Yorkshire so hardly the middle of Manc), the officer advised him to call 999 and report it to them rather than the local station (because they're not all manned after 6pm). He then went on to ask how the police would regard him if he tried to outrun the persuer (he has an EVO and is a good driver). The officer said that the scenario would be taken into consideration and looked favourably upon if it were to go to court.
Got to say, I've never heard an officer say anything like that before, certainly not the ones I met in my youth pulling me for speeding.

IIRC Beckham used the excuse he was being chased as a defence when prosecuted for speeding, although I can't remember if it worked.
I'm pretty sure that if you can provide some form of evidence (the smashed in windows would probably do nicely) the police will probably use their discretion, although not if you're still doing over a ton twenty miles from where it happened!

Don said: Some scumbag tried that on me. I wouldn't be doing a three point turn. I'd heading straight for them with the accelerator pressed to the carpet.
Good idea, but my car has this stupid fuel cut-off gizmo that would come into play - thus leaving you stranded until you can lift the bonnet & press the button.... scary huh? you'd then be looking at 1 injured attacker, plus 2 trying to kill you. Suddenly running away seems like the best option.
Drive home??? Then you'd have to get out. Drive to a police station?? Same problem??
Drive to somewhere where there is lots of people??
Drive to a 24hr garage (the bigger the better), they have ccTv, the scroats know it. Not exactly perfect but a real discouragement.
Sure that move got me a out of a potentially similar situation recently...

I'd definately run them over - and If I had a stupid cut off like that I'd have it disabled in case of such a situation. I wonder what the feds would do if you did run the ****ers over?
I have a 24hr Esso garage about 4 miles from where I live, There are always at least 2 police cars parked up because that's where they go for their coffee breaks.
I guess i'd just keep my finger on the horn if someone was trying to hijack me. Make as much noise as possible to draw attention to myself.

It has happened to me before, near stansted airport.
Drove into the service station , theres a travel lodge there also, was hoping to sleep there for the night as I had an early flight in the morning.
As I approached the hotel, a Silver Mondeo with 2 possibly 3 blokes tried ramming me off the road, Booted it out of the service station with the said car following me. Nailed it and heaed down the 120, and kept going for a few miles and did a u - turn. No sign of the scumbags. Reported it but the police were not really interested.
P.S was in an E46 M3

The girlfriend drives a TT and she will just run over whoever tries it on and shag the car doing whatever it takes to keep them away from the car - if they get in the car they might want/hurt her too.
She's based up in Leeds in the week now where TTs are a bit rarer than near home in the SE. But being American she's paranoid about this kind of thing most of the time.

I have in the past actually tried to run someone over but they excaped down a side alley before I could get to them. They had jumped me just before I got in the car. once I got in the car it was a serious case of red mist and I would have gone over them before any self control returned.
It's probably fortunate for me that I never managed it but if I was in the same situation again I'd probably end up doing exactly the same thing.
Ironically I reported the attack to the police (I had a bloody nose so there was some evidence, sort of) and they said they'd check the CCTV. Unsurprisingly it was looking the wrong way at the time. Feckin typical. I suppose though had I managed to run them over the police wouldn't have had any CCTV footage though.
The incedent still makes my blood boil to this day as I was just walking along back to my car and they had no reason to attack me. I also still wish I had hit them.

Whilst watching the news (or tomorrows world) a few years back I saw a device which was basically:
An inflatable passenger in a case.
I think it was called Justin Case, and it was designed to be used by women driving alone to make it look like there was a large man in the passenger seat so they wouldn't be targeted by hijackers.
I have tried about 5 search engines to find a site relating to it, but I haven't found anything yet (well, one site which fitted the criteria but resulted in: "Page has Expired".)

Ever thought how this carjacking 'explosion' has occurred since computer games like Grand Theft Auto told kids how to do it?
I've played the game a few times and find it's whole concept sick and irresponsible, and the majority of people I've met who own it are under 18. Obviously I'm not blaming the jackings solely on the game, but something which glamourises nicking cars, beating the s**t out of the owners, running over some pedestrians and then burning someone's pride and joy (and sending their insurance premiums through the stratosphere) without thinking about the consequences is dubious as to it's merits.
(P.S. - if someone ever does stand in front of your car with a gun or something, yelling 'stop, get out' etc, knock the doorpins down with your elbow, drop a gear, slow to about 15-20 mph and ram the bastards)

v8 I think you are out on the GTA reference. Even a very stupid criminal can see that a car jacking is simply stoping a car and threatening the occupant. Hardly somthing that needs explaining!
The rise in car jackings is due to the fact that most nice cars are now a lot more difficult to steal without the keys. Hence also the (well documented on this site) rise in burglary for car keys..
Blaming computer games / tv for crime is an old one, but theres little evidence to suggest this is the case. It's someting the PC brigade constantly try and link, but it's not been done and I doubt ever will be.
If you're suggesting that kids are playing the game when it's set with an 18 rating, then that is an issue for the parents not the manufacturers. Thats why theres a rating system and standards board for film, games etc. I have played the game (- all versions - I used to work in the industry, and frankly fail to see how it could educate a criminal at all! The only lesson the game deals out in the end is that if you do lots of bad stuff the cops will almost inevitably catch you..
If you're going down this route, ban the dukes of hazard, the bill, the professionals, the simpsons, the news, treasure island, the itallian job, the godfather - all these are far worse as they show real people in close frame committing terrible acts of crime.............

I'm on v8's side here.. we all KNOW that some people with no ego and social skills are seriously affected by images etc. portrayed on TV and in Video games.. I recall specifically one of the shootings by some 14ish yr old in america some years ago.. the excuse being "I saw it on TV"..
.. now whilst these people aren't "normal" I would also suggest that those who sit indoors all night every night playing GTA3 aren't "normal" well adjusted individuals either...
Cheers
Matt.

I suggest that the geeks who sit in all night are not a worry for anyone in the street.
The problem is the ones out of control on the street who roam free meeting up with other scrotes, till one suggests a car-jacking and the other retards follow. They begin to act like wild animals and the last thing they are worried about is getting home to play computer games.
Computer geek is not my main worry.

If thats the best you can do mate it's ratther lame.. Of coursethe defence is going to say this in court, couldn't be little darling being an evil little bastard cos he hated someone could it... OTherwise he's get the chair... :zzzap:
Anyway, of course there are some unbalanced individuals out there who might see something and become fixated on the image, but thats as likely to be the tv news as a game. Yes small children can be adversely affected, that's recognised (if not proven) and thats why age limits are enforced.
Besides the number of unbalanced individuals out there do not mount up to cover the 'explosion' of car jackings as V8 put it, there must be normal people out there doing it. Criminals aren't all mental cases, most are perfectly sane and in it for the money as I'm sure madcop would tell you.
Besides car jacking is a business, very often luxury cars, stolen to order by highly organised criminal gangs. This is not something done by some pissed 14 year olds after a night on the PS2...
As for the :geek: comments, guilty as charged mate

However the step from "computer geek" to "other retard" is probably not that far is it ??
