Who would you vote for?
Discussion
Given all the who ha about the Conservatives and IDS of late who would PHer's vote for? If not any of the major parties why and what policies woudl you implement or change from those that are current?
It seems, of late, at least, that the majority of PHer's have a tendancy to rub against the establishment, not that I can blame any of you, driven to a degree about policies that seem anti-motorist and those that are too PC.
Ted if this goes against the grain please feel free to bin!
In general I think we as a nation have become an apathetic lot all too willing to moan but let others get on with it as they cannot be bothered themselves to do anything about it (Carzee your are most definitely the exception). There are some strong opinions voiced on here and as a group it appears, where certain motoring policies are concerned, that we have a core who are prepared to do something.
So back to the orginal qu, who, what, why and what would you do yourself??
The PH party lives!!
PC

I'm a labour voter. Seeing what the Tories did to the North East when I was growing up, and the greed fostered elsewhere during their reign, I couldn't ever bring myself to vote for the Conseratives.
I should be prime meat for the Tories, what with earning a lot, being well educated, and living in the South East, but, even with all their misconceived nannying, Labour will be getting my vote next time out again.

If there were a (bi)election tomorrow, I really do not know.
If it's a question of who has policies that are acceptable to me - none of them
if it's a question of who has the most charismatic and visionary leader - none of them
if it's a question of the lesser of the two/three evils - none of them.
You get my point...
The political scene in this country is in a sorry old state. All three main parties edging towards the middle ground and yet proposing to deal with real problems by use of remarkably illiberal policies (liberal policies don't work on such matters as illegal immigration etc..), broad sweeping reforms which cause more problems than they solve and a general complete lack of conviction and integrity which cripples every stage of the governmental process.
By the Conservatives lunging to the left with Ian Duck and Sniff at the helm, the Dib Lems being careful not to move to the left of Noo Labia for fear of losing ground and Noo Labia moving to the right, we have three parties sharing the same political and ideological centre ground, practically half of English voters are effectively disenfranchised. Personally I don't know about Plaid Cwmru or the SNP so I can;t really comment on them, but the fact thjat they are on the ascendency and Conservatives have been practically thrown out of Scotland and Wales does not bode qwell for them as a potential party of government (aside of dangerous & unstable coalitions with nationalist parties)
Also, all three parties are wound up with Political Correctness (with all the feminist attitudes that implies) and media management.
Oh and lest I should miss an opportunity to bang my favourite drum of the moment, it doesn't matter who's in power because no reall effectual changes will occur in this country until the corrupt and obstructive civil service machinery is dismantled and rebuilt without the power crazed cowards, gardners in waiting and jobsworth muppets.
A third of the people, paid twice the salary could do the job better. Burocracy for its own sake should be punishable by death.

There needs to be another option...
Labour are too soft (and I wouldnt trust Blair as far as I could throw him, and it wouldnt be far but it would be by the testicles), Dem Libs are too disorganised and the Tories are too ridiculous at the moment.
I would vote for a party that treated the nation as a business, that held each area accountable for its own budget. I would vote for a party that actually listened to the people and actually put Britain first and above everything else. I would vote for a party that didnt pander to the one armed black lesbian yoghurt knitters anti car blind man haters every five minutes. I would vote for a party that didnt employ ludicrous levels of spin to win every argument. I would vote for a party that actually improved peoples lives.
Matt.

Well said Plotloss. I'm in agreement with much that you've said. I'd also like to add a short postscrpt: I'd like to find a party that doesn't pander to the latest fashionable issue in the news. Set a mandate and follow it please.
1 week we find it's Asylum seekers, the next it's education, crime, hospitals, doctors, firemen, stop and search, traffic/roads/, the economy - the list goes on.
I think IDS will resign (it's funny how a single letter makes such a difference between resign and reign....), Kenneth of the Clark variety will take over with Portaloo as deputy. Clark will lose the next election but the rebuild will be on the way and Portaloo will win the election after that.

Seems eminently sound reasoning to me...I was pondering the other day - is there anything that's actually improved in the UK post-May '97 as a result of the government's policies? Plenty on here about what's wrong with the country at the moment - so what's going well? Low unemployment?? (Could say that's not entirely down to recent policies...)

The weather??
Snag is that you can only vote for a local candidate and the best man locally is not necessarily a representative of the party best equipped to represent the country.
My MP is a star when it comes to local issues and I wouldn't vote for anybody else currently on the scene but whether or not his party would be good for GB is a matter for debate.
Until we take a radical look at how our votes are validated there seems to be little chance of us getting a representative Government.
