On the resurfaced section of the M3 between J3 & 4 approximately.

It looks wet in the dark when in fact it's bone dry. Tail lights reflect off the surface significantly more than is normal in the dry.

So - a couple of questions:

- is it a permanent effect? I've never seen it before and the sheen hasn't worn off the surface in a month or two since it was laid.

- is it a ruse to make us drive more slowly by behaving as if the road is wet & slippy when in fact it's dry.. ?

- Will such a surface not be more slippy than is normal in the wet - ie lower friction?

Probably quite good for people who have no tread on their tyres. It would be a bit like a formula 1 circuit?

It it just smooth tarmac, or does it actually seem Shiny like bitumen?

Believe me when I say I have driven every motorway in mainland Britain and I have never witnessed a surface like it that I recall.

Really good noise from the tyres as well, whilst on the M3, have you driven in the inside lane between Jct 6 and Junction 4, the grooves are so deep that it is getting really dangerous....before you ask, I get on at junction 4a and have to use the inside lane there and get off at Jct 6 and so use the inside lane again then, I am not a numpty, I know this as I would be in the middle lane!!

I do recall watching a Tommorrows World years back when they were a proper show, when they showed off a new type of tarmac, that if I remember my physics/biology right is a type of tarmac which uses osmosis to disperse the water (if any) of the surface by some fangled type of effect. I seem to remember it worked in the reverse to the way tarmac works at the moment. They also mimbled on about its coefficiency of grip.

I may be talking completly in translated rusty sherrifs language, and please if somebody corrects me then cool.

But if I'm right, Yes, I'll take the sad geek award next year at BTAP...
