I've had to go up to Telford for the day, in a (wait for it...) Citroen C5 hire car (oh joy!).

On the way back, on the M6, I noticed something strange. I had the radio off, and as I was going along, I noticed a little beep from the dash, and the radio/clock display scroll a message across:

"Speed too high"

It was persisting down, the motorway wasn't moving very quickly, and visibility was particularly poor - I was going about 45-50, leaving loads of space between me and the car in front, with dipped beam on. This was after the last set of roadworks, in an NSL, round about J3 I think.

I've never come across this before, so wondered how the hell it worked, and is it just a Citroen thing. The radio was off as the conditions were bad, but to have this thing scrolling away on the dashboard is a distraction, and seems dangerous to me.

Anyone heard of this, know what it's about, or care to comment?

Incidentally, as I was on the way up, there was a large sign in the middle of the large set of roadworks(where the SPECS are):

"9082 detections to date"

I'm not sure how long these road works have been there, but if each and every detection was a normal £60 (and you can bet they all weren't) that would 'earn' the local authority/constabulary the princely sum of £544,920. Wonder where thats going!

Tony (stressed out because of idiots with fog lights on leaving all of about 8 feet behind me all the way home!! AARRGGHH!)

In my Porsche you can set a Speed Limit in the On-board Computer which will then cause a beep to be emitted if you exceed the speed. Very useful on long 40s or 30s where otherwise the speed might creep up.

Cruise is a better system..but it can be useful.

It hasn't got a microphone that picked up those squeely tyre noises you were making ?
