what to get?

Hi all,
My dad has promised me a new car for my birthday.
I'm currently thinking about either a TVR or a sporty merc.
The TVR is a very goodlooking car and will be rather on the fast side but I don't know how my dad feels about them.
The merc is rather cool too and I'm told the AMG version goes like stink.
And I can get one with an automatic.
I think TVRs only have manual gearing but I'd rather have an automatic.
I can't make my mind up.
please help.

how long you been driving? if not long, then a TVR may be unwise. As maybe, dare I say, anything over 100bhp? if you've got around 50,000 miles in, then think about super-cars. Otherwise, take it easy, and work up to the powerful stuff. Auto's are cool, and for me, if I was buying right now, I'd look for an automatic too - I spend way too much time in traffic jams to want to bother. But if it's sporty driving your're afer, maybe manual would be best.

Take it easy, and count yourself lucky that someone is buying you a car rather than you having to earn it.
