Strange foreign car fraud?
Discussion
Maybe somebody can shed some light on this.
I just received what looks like a loverly crisp car registration document from Denmark.
The thing is i've been there once for mucky weekend with the missus - a couple of years ago - and I certainly don't remember buying a Toyota Rav 4 (please give me some credit!)
And the address on the picture below is wrong, only slightly. Think 15 not 1b, and an extra digit in the postcode, but gawd bless the post office, it still turned up.
Not really understanding Danish, it would seem the car was in my name for one day only.
Unless anyone can tell me otherwise it looks like some lowlife is using my name and address (ish) to push cars of a dubious pedigree through Denmark?
I could pop down to the local cop shop but i'd imagine in central london they have other things to get on with first.
Anyone got any thoughts on this please?
thanks
a.
ps does this mean i could sell the rav 4?

This is all a bit odd. I don't know exactly how vehicle registration works in Denmark, but there's an approval number on the form (E-10647-6), the vehicle is approved for PLG-equivalent use and you're definitely listed as the owner (user) [eier (bruger)] - and the first and only owner at that.
Did you stay in or around Rødovre? Could anyone have got hold of your details?
Not sure the UK police would be interested in this, but if I were you I'd definitely get in touch with Centralregisteret for Motorkøretøyer (= Danish DVLA equivalent) and talk to them. Their address is:
Centralregisteret for Motorkøretøyer
Landlystvej 34
DK-2650 Hvidovre
Denmark
Tel. +45 36 48 14 88
They speak excellent English for the most part in Denmark, so don't worry about language problems.
Good luck!
Edited to add: 01/11 is the date of first registration.

wow you sure know your stuff.
thats the danish dvla place all right.
surprisingly enough they are not at work today, but there was a very helpful lady on the switchboard who spoke perfect english.
I didn't goto Rødovre unless thats part of copenhagen where we did stay.
i'll give them a ring on monday and see how it goes...

Lucky that - I make a living out of it!

Could be - Rødovre is just to the west of Copenhagen and officially part of the Municipality of Copenhagen.

Let me know how you get on! It'd be interesting to know whether the office is aware of other instances of this happening.
Hi
This is a Danish reg doc , but it is with out tax Danish tax on cars is around 180% one of the ways around this is to get a car on border plates its a way for Danes living outside of Danmark to avoid paying the 180% , generally cars in Danmark are very cheap BEFORE TAX is paid .
I think Rodvore is the main registration office for Copenhavn , i will check with some freinds on this and get back to you on Monday .

Sorry i forgot to add , to register a car on Border plates (tax and VAT Free) you need to have a name and adress of someone who resides outside of Danmark , i did this for a freind on his 360 spider .
As i said i will check further and get back , feel free to e-mail me through my profile if you want to keep it descrete.
Edited to say , they would have needed a copy of your passport and several of your signatures to register the car
