If F1 were to race around London!
Discussion
I was thinking about the Monaco GP last night, and wondered what a GP around the steets of London would be like!
How about this......
Start: Picadilly. (Outside the Ritz Hotel)
Head towards Picadilly Circus
Turn right down Haymarket to Trafalgar Square
Head down Pall Mall towards Buckingham Palace
From Buckingham Palace head up to Hyde Park Corner
From Hyde Park Corner drive up Park Lane to Marble Arch
From Marble Arch come back down Park Lane to Hyde Park Corner again.
Race back down Picadilly from Hyde Park Corner to complete one lap!
It would certainly be better than the boring circuits we have to put up with these days!

Nice, but not enough twisties. WHat about taking a detour round St James' Square on the route down Pall Mall, then on the route south down Park Lane, turn left into Grosvenor Square, Grosvenor St then down Conduit St, into Regent St, then back to Piccadily Circus for a lap completion.
I think autosport asked Damon Hill a couple of years back the same question - can't remeber the route though.
We had street racing in Birmingham - The Halfords Super Prix, formula 3 and formula 3000 if I recall (I was only 11 or 12 when it last ran). Would be no good now though, too many speed cameras and pot holes. But then again Birmingham ins't quite Monaco is it

.....There was a proposal for a Hyde Park based GP in the 50/60s. Planning was quite advanced and most of the authorities had given the nod, I believe intervention by Prince Phillip finally killed it on the basis that the crowds could not be accommodated. I think the Stones concert in the park proved that to be wrong.
Car Magazine did a nocturnal blast around the proposed route in a road equipped Lotus single seater, they managed to spin it in the Park Lane underground car park.
It does seem to be a great shame that the race was not held at a time when race speeds could be accommodated without too much upheaval, todays F1 would be a bit much for the park.
A couple of years ago I thought it would be a nice idea to commemorate the 100th anniversary of what is regarded by some as the first official speed hill climb which was held at Petersham Hill (Richmond-upon-Thames) with a demonstration run up the hill. I thought it was rather a long shot but the Leader of the Local council was in favour, the Police and London Transport were prepared to co-operate as were the Royal Parks and local property owners who would provide the 'paddock'. I even had a reasonable cross section of cars and drivers lined up.
The whole thing eventually came to nought as none of the motoring magazines or clubs approached were prepared to help with the organisation and it was all too much for one person to arrange within the time frame. In the end I held my own solo commemoration in the early hours of the morning, apologies to any residents of the Star and Garter Home that I may have woken up.
PS I witnessed an early morning demonstration run by two dragsters (Dos Palmos and another)starting in the Hyde Park Corner Underpass. Anything is possible it seems.

I wonder if Red Ken would still charge them the £5 "congestion charge"...?
