It used to be that you shoudl buy anything just to get your insurance started. At that sort of price, though, seems doubtful it's worthwhile.
I suppose your best chance is to buy a car with insurance thrown in. Seems, though, that you'll still need to find 6k for the car, which is a lot of money.

Congratulations, I passed my test at the end of feb this year, so I know how fantastic you are feeling at the moment.
As regards insurance, have you tried Direct Line? I was quoted about £1100 by Ford when I tried to insure my Ka, but I got it for £450 with Direct Line.

Ill give churchill a call tonight methinks...
Don't even bother with Churchill... they'll laugh you off the phone. You might want to look up Bell Direct. They do a 9 month "accelerator" scheme. You buy insurance in 9 month intervals, rather than 12... and following 9 months claim free, they will give you 1 years NCB....
Insure you car as your parent's car with you as named driver. The money you'll save will far outweigh the no-claims you won't be earning on it. Then when the car gets too knackered to use, stick it in a garage somewhere on a 3 miles a year policy in your own name, and do the parent's thing on the next car. repeat process untill age >25.
