"I'm a street racer me" ........ "No one can tell me what to do"

It's this sort of prat that gives the anti-car lobby enough ammo to nuke any pro car debate into the middle of next week.

We can't win can we?

I second the above - what a t@sser. I really hate all of this street racing/crusin' crap. Bunch of meat headed poo polishers. Get a better attitude and go into properly regulated motorsport instead of blowing money on blue neon lighting for the underneath of the cars. Its one thing killing themselves - quite another if they take innocent people with them. Not much fun for the plod and fire service scraping pieces of broken skull out of lamp posts. Tw@ts.

I saw that, and thought exacty what you thought, and they perform stunt you know, yes the same stunts which need 12 other people to sit on the front of your car so you can get the tyres smoking on your nasty front wheel drive cars.

and as for that bloke who thinks people can't tell him what to do, he should be then people wont have to try and tell him what to do, what a nob with completely the wrong attitude, you rekon you love cars, pah you just like driving fast, people who love cars have respect for what damage they can inflict on people and drive for the love of driving, not to get the thrill of going fast, we do that on track.

RANT OVER!

It is a really big mistake to reject the young. We should be ashamed we are not getting involved with the Max power nuts and giving them the benefit of our experience. Yeas there will be some idiots among them, and this guy is clearly one of them. But think about the alternative view from the opposing youngsters camp.

"Oooh, (takes big pull on joint) well you middle class motorist bastards with your fast cars are exploiting the planet righhhhht. (Another big pull) What with ecommerce and the increase in the whaaaaaale population there is no neeeeeed for caars any more.

Pick your w*nker. I'll go with the max power muppet thanks.

The pr*cks on the television - yes.

The general proportion of "cruisers" - no.

Read the post on "Cruise-South" (http://pub131.ezboard.com/fcruisesouthfrm1.showMessage?topicID=14514.topic) They're just as pissed off as you are. I know a lot of "cruisers" - in fact, I'd say I'm one myself to a point. And what was portayed on the TV is not what the majority of the cruise scene is about.

Imagine middle England watching the program - the vicars, magistrates, headmasters, etc. Then they come across the ABD website with pictures of torched gatso's and 'speed doesn't kill' banners.

What would they think?

Nonegreen, agree with you mate.
They all have to start somewhere, and I'm sure none of us are blameless, if not now, in the past we've all done stuff we shouldn't.

"Absolute scrotes, words can't express how I feel about these dick heads!"

Absolutley agree. They give all car enthusiasts a bad name. I hope the Police check all these scrotes' cars over for Tax, MOT, defects and insurance - then scrap all those cars that do not comply. As for street racing - they should get themselves to a drag strip. Or even do some motorsport that involves driving round a bend if they feel they can handle that! And hopefully kill themselves for the crowd's entertainment. Should not be a worry for the particular cabbage who was interviewed. T@ssers.

The point it that there's no obvious outlet for the desire for the young to speed (oh god, I'm such an old fogey!).

When I first passed my test I drove at stupid speeds and raced my mates. Two reasons

1) My driver training hadn't educated me to the risks I was taking
2) I didn't see another outlet for it
3) Too much testosterone

Those guys want to race? Get 'em onto a drag strip or lets introduce low cost racing formula that lets them pit their wits against each other on the track.

Track racing is now wrapped up with more rules than ever. That makes sense for the people who want to race safely. Here are a bunch of nobs who want to race with risk. So let them, but take away the risk of letting them kill someone else.

Let them take their cars onto an airfield with all the spectators in a bunker and they can race to their heart's content. Why is that so wrong? And before you shoot down the idea in flames as being ridiculous, bear in mind that's almost the set up of the Nurburgring!

I've just looked at the ABD website. There is a call for "controlled 15MPH limits" outside schools. And a set of safe driving tips. What exactly is your complaint?

Given that the ABD doesn't condone damaging speed cameras and that there are no 'Speed Doesn't Kill' banners or photos of burned out gatsos on their site, I wonder which ABD Peter is talking about..

I had more serious comments to make, but then I found this on the above cruiser forum and found it much more entertaining..

I agree with Mungo and Co, max power boys are total bell ends!! The lad interviewed on the program was old enough to get the initial "post driving test, im a sh*t driver" thing out of his system. It's tossers like that that push my insurance premium through the roof. Im under 25 and consider myself a safe driver, i have 3 years NCB and was convicted of an SP30 just over 3 years ago. I never speed to the extreme but will admit i have fun in cars....but safe fun on roads i know and at speeds i am comfortable with. Due to the dumb scally boys who buy shagged out pieces of crap nailing the engine till they're radiators blow up i have to burden the cost and being an "unsafe driver" by insurance companies.
That stupid tit last night was more amunition for insurance and road safety groups about dangerous drivers amoung the young.
As for cruisers....if kids really want to go to a car park and wheel spin till there tires go bald let them. When the engine knackers, clutch dies, exhaust falls off and tires need replacing im sure it wont be so fun.

Totally agree.

170 in the rain..... mental that is, absolutely mental.

Then plod can nick em for driving a car in a dangerous condition when they come out of the car park.

Only thing is, if you offered to organise something like a track day for them, they wouldn't want to play, cos its not "outside the law" - thats the big kick for them, not just the speed.

We have to be careful tho, as we all agree that fast driving is fun - just that we believe we temper our driving to suit the conditions. Do theses guys think they are good as well????

Rubbish! When it comes down to it, the expressed attitude is NO different to the attitude that makes suited reps hammer down the outside lane of the Mway at 100mph, in thick fog, 3 yards from the bumper in front, and then end up as toast, just as 2 people did yesterday, right under the M18 bridge on the outskirts of the village where I work. There is just the same disregard for other road users, a belief in their own immortality, and their right to suspend common sense.

I think Nonegreen said we should educalate the youngstas, to presumably higher aspirational levels than 300bhp Corsas, etc.

If this were possible, I'd agree. But how? With such allegiance to the irredeemably naff, do we think these young sinners can be shown the light?

Maybe PH could do charitable works by strapping them into an Ultima GTR at Bruntingthorpe and then seeing what the reaction was?

If they started drooling uncontrollably and suddenly realized that the Tuscan S, not the 300ZX, is actually an object of sublime delight then great; blue peter badge, pat on the head and a nice mug of bovril.

But were they to alight, post blast and spew forth any utterances involving 'innit,' immediately proceeded by a compulsion to stick little blue neons on the washer nozzles, then deportation, on a Scud, should be the immediate and unfortunately unavoidable remedy.

Agreed - insurance for the under 25's is a nightmare at the best of times. I recently phoned a cpmpany who want "safe drivers with fours years NCB" (I have 6 and no claims, accidents or convictions)... only to be told that I was a bad risk due to my age...

Nice!

It is an odd idea, buy rubbish old car, slap hundreds of pounds worth of stuff on it which in turn makes it look 10 times worse

Why not just buy a decent new car and go find yourself some damn fine woman to fill the passenger deat with instead of spending your weekends in the local rip speed
