A mate of mine has appealed to me for help on buying a digital video camera for his work. I'm good on financial matters but I'm lost on this one, so thought I'd consult the collective wisdom of PH as I recall a some of you work in the imaging business or have them track days etc.

Basically he imports fruit by the boat load. What he's planning to do is to take footage of the farms he visits and then when back in the UK he will use some of the footage in his sales pitches to customers to show them exactly where the fruit is coming from, the packing house etc.

He will be using a Mac Powerbook (OS X) to do the editing (this being his replacement for desktop and laptop in one go). At the moment he's looking at the Sony IP7 but I can't find out if this will connect up via Firewire with the Mac. I also seem to recall that it uses a different kind of MPEG compression ?MPEG 2 that is not as good in image terms as ordinary MPEG. He knows that the format is Sony's own and not the more common Mini DV, but is still interested in going ahead if all the connectivity is OK.

I was thinking he should stick with somehting like the Sony PC101, PC120 if he wants the small toy as at least they are Mini DV which you seem to be able to get in most places.

Advice re functionality issues gratefully accepted. Also opinions on the IP7 v's PC 101/120.

Many thanks

Chris
