Most household insurance rates havnt gone up in the last 12 months, unless youre in a dodgy area flood or crime wise. Id imagine that your insurer are taking the piss in the way insurers somtimes do come renewal time and a few calls to brokers or other insurers will see you with somthing like what you were paying before. Mines with a company called 'Bell' at Lloyds and its only around £250 for £180k buildings £35K buildings and £3k personal poss... I am in cornwall though.. been with them for years and only ever goes up by index linking.

Interesting ... when I rang them up to whinge, I was fed the usual BS about "all insurance premiums going up" yadda yadda.

Go to a different company. Renewals will always be more expensive. I've changed my insurance between the same two companies every year for ages, and they've still not realised.

Buildings is for £300K rebuild at £280/year

I don't have contents but have a NU "global possesions and travel policy" basically is the muts nuts and covers everything we own (well £60K) anywhere in the world for pretty much all eventualities plus medical, its basically contents plus travel plus a few extra bells and whistles. I've even been paid out for fairings, repairs, helmet and race leathers in the past when I've binned a bike racing without even a flinch (I claimed under "sports equipment accidental damage). It does cost £540/year mind.
