Impreza Prices
Discussion
I have been thinking about a turbo for my second car (sold my 97 M3 recently), but the prices just seem to be in free fall probably because :
1. The New WRX is very very dull to drive compared to the old one it feels about as quick as my golf GTI and has more lag than my loft !!!!!
2. The new wrx can be had for £16995 (as someone else said)
3. Having studied the prices for about 3 months now (looking for a 1999 /2000 model people seem to want silly money for them 12/13k which is just no going to happen when 2001 wrx's are about for 12/13k.
4. The servicing costs, insurance costs are high pro rata for this value of car now (£4,000 - £10,000) and the service intervels are very short 6000 miles
It seems very good news for us second hand buyers, the ones with sensibile prices are still selling well from what I can see i.e. 2000 turbo with a/c and leather 38k £9500 sold at the weekend.
Just very glad I didn't buy the one I was looking at 4 months ago !!!!

The second hand Impreza is now astonishing value. But as Phil points out, the insurance and servicing costs will always keep them out of the hands of the Saxo Boyz.
The service interval isn't quite as bad, Phil. It was every 7500 miles (Turbo 2000) and on the new WRX I think it's beeb raised to 9000 (or 10)? Someone with a newer car than me will have to confirm.
I agree that the newer cars are a little dull - you need to step up the specification ladder to a UK 300 or STi to get anything interesting. But why bother - just get a second hand RB5 - loads of fun.
Me, well, this weekend I went out and bought the don on Imprezas. The P1. What a car
I pick it up on Saturday. This week is already dragging.
hahaha, there is an owner who has a P1 and a Chimera. Just have to fish around in my emails to find him.
The P1 is sort of holding price although there has been a big initial depreciation from the book price but appears to have stablised. I paid £24k for mine, 15k on the clock, Prodrive brakes upgrade and the dealer are putting on 4 new P zeros (any good?) and respraying the boot (scratches) for me.
I think privately a P1 can be had for less, but I wanted the security of the warranty and protection that a main dealer gives. 24k beer tokens is alot of cash.

Nice one Smifffy. Can I just take this opportunity to remind you that those lovely new tyres should always be kept on the underside of the car. If you find them above the roofline, something's gone horribly wrong. (Again)
hahaha, Thanks Imelda. It turns out at the dealership, one of the sales managers actually drove past my topsy turvey Subaru just after the crash.
He remembered my shopping being all over the road and plod being parked right on the apex of a blind bend. (which he was. Doh!).
Trust me, Mrs Smifffy has already given me more lectures than is strictly necessary
