Self indulgence (happy Dad)

I've been reading and occasionally commenting on PH for a few months now, but I'm going to indulge in a bit of parental pride.
My older daughter got a 2.1 in Graphic Design this year, and earlier this month I took the family along to to her Graduation day. She really looked the part in mortarboard and gown, (although I suspect the gown wasn't designed to go with a psycho girl T-shirt). And now she is gainfully employed in her chosed career, and was recently praised for some design work that will appear in Maxpower shortly. In my daughter's words "its chav wheels for chav people" but who can afford to be picky in their first job?
So to all PH'ers with young families, all the years of sleepless nights, choosing schools, worrying about her dodgy boyfriends, and financial hardship can be worth it in the end.
And am I a proud dad or am I a proud Dad?

I think this is a great thread to start. First we had the PHers' babies discussion, then the schools debate, and finally we can see that all that hard work parenting can pay off in the end. A nice way to round off a working week!

This is excellent. Well done to both daughter and Dad! My eldest daughter is heading in a similar direction, though several years away yet. I look forward to the great sense of pride and fulfillment both of you must be feeling. You should post a link to some of her work when it's live.

Thanks all for your kind thoughts.
She's engaged so no chance there! She can't drive yet but wants lessons for xmas pressie. I think her aspirations in the way of vehicles run to a small sporty type coupe e.g. MG but I know she likes the sound of a V8 TVR.
My younger daughter plans to start uni next year to study photography so maybe another creative, artistic graduate in the family in 4 years time? Just the small matter of tuition fees to consider...

I will, by that time have a A level in: Design tech, business and Physics.

Someone please save me form the student life of no money and no car in a one bedroomed flat.

Alan - take the opportunity, be a student! It's great IMHO. Yes, it costs an arm and a leg and you do have to make a few sacrifices at the time, but it's all a means to an end. It's character-forming - and it's not forever.

Oh, and it's brilliant fun and the beer is subsidised. I'd carry on and do a doctorate any day if I could fit it in!

Even just to broaden your mind, do it. Do it for the 5k more you'll be paid when you graduate. Just do it. The no money thing's not a problem if you've got an ounce of intelegence and can get a p/t job.
I'm in my 2nd year now and i can still afford a decent lifestyle. You'll regret not going when your'e 40 and can't get a job cos you've got no degree.

go to University, I left school after my A'levels worked for 4 years before starting an OU degree and then finally going to Uni full time.

The difference going has made to my career has been huge (different field to you admittedly).

The experience is invaluable in its own right (regardless of careers and how relevant your degree is yo your chosen profession)

I know the feeling well. My wife and I worked extra hours and made every sacrifice to put my youngest daughter through Cambridge. She got a first class honours and left with no debts. We were on top of the world on Graduation day. She is now a Clinical Cyto-Genetisist.

Sod working for a living. Its sh1t.

Go to uni. Drink lots. Get into debt. Smoke weed. Sleep all day. Pull lots of birds. That's about all you'll do.

Now I'm off to complete today's requirement of things to do by going down the jo cruiser to find some ladies.
