You're just sad

Alternatively you could set up PhalHeads.com.

Not even in Essex, as it is a London Borough.
London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

Not sure how long it has not been in Essex.
Since the 60's I think.

Romford similarly, has not been part of Essex since around 1967-69 when it became The London Borough of Havering.

Although almost everyone still regards Romford, Barking, Ilford, etc to be in Essex.

That's cos they are in Essex, they have Essex postcodes, but the unitary authority is the London Borough of Whatever. I live in Welling, Kent; but I live in the London Borough of Bexley. Bexley is also in Kent...

In Metropolitan cities (London, Brum, Manchester etc) which are effectively counties in their own right and are not in any other county as such, you get the city itself and then the bit round the outside becomes 'Greater' (city), Greater London, Greater Manchester etc. The 'Greater' bit will contain parts of the surrounding counties - Greater London is formed from parts of Essex, Herts, Surrey, Kent, and probably some Berkshire and Bedfordshire into the bargain. Greater Manchester has a bit of Cheshire and some Lancashire, and so on.

How come then when you go up the road to ongar and out up towards the M11 it says welcome to Essex, if your already in it?

Romford has an RM postcode, Ilford an IG, which were postally Essex.

This arguement was brought up in the Romford Recorder a while back.

I think I may have something from the 1960s saying about the change over.

A local MP wanted Romford put back into Essex.
