Sports car danger to 4x4s !

Major offroad club complains that evil low sports cars are a danger to lovely cute & cuddly off roaders. In the result of a head on accident, the lower bumper/bonnet of the sportscar (particulary TVR & Lotus) can dangerously flip a 4x4 on its roof. Ban all low slung sports cars immediately !!!! or force them to wear bull-bars like "proper" vehicles.

Ok, a bit of a spoof, but a view from "the other side of the argument"....

Well judging by the fact that my wicked and evil low sports car passes its MOT emissions test TWICE (ok failed on the tyres!!) with flying colours too.... and returns a healthy 25MPG....

I think that you will find that the "average" cute-and-cudly 4x4 returns 14MPG if you are luck and run very unclean and un-environment-friendly engines...

So whos cute and cudly now then????

erm...my sports car averages 15 mpg whereas the 4x4 manages 22mpg.

The 4x4 has been converted to gas making the engine nice and clean.

I love both my cars and will defend both of them to the death!

My 4x4 does about 30 mpg, on 95 unleaded, doesn't need bullbars (with its RSJ type bumpers) and is excellent off-road. Oh, and brake pads cost about £4.50 per set for the front.

we'll ignore the average small hatchback car that will be destroyed in such a head-on impact with a 4x4 shall we? face facts, the driver of these cars and sports cars dislike 4x4s so lets get rid of them... unless you live on Mount Kensington or in the wild, rugged, mountain-goat-grazing outback known as Fulham.

I tend to think of 4x4s in the same group as caravans - I don't mind them as long as they are not slowing down my progress

yeah? and? 4x4s are for mountains and rough ground... they don't stick to that rule much either!

Don't 4x4's come under a different category to normal cars...? Something like they're farm vehicles or the like hence they don't have to meet regs for bumper height, headlamp height and all that guff...? Should be easy to single them out for a massive hike in tax etc.

Also I think we should ban this category of vehicle from the outside lane of motorways. The number of times I have some 4x4 up my chuff at NSL+ is unreal. If I have to stop quickly, they'll be right into my tailgate and will probably kill me as there's no way any 4x4 can outbrake my car, let alone taking reaction time into account.

Alternative. Speed limit them to 56mph like trucks.

By 4x4 of course, I don't mean stuff like Scooby's and the like, just Jeeps, Rangeys and all crap with seventeen diffs and eight gearboxes all strapped to four tonnes of pig iron.

Actually anyone seen the latest Clarkson video - he does a 60-0 test using a Focus RS, Range Rover (new one) and an old Ford Anglia. Basically the Anglia is crap (as you would expect) but the interesting one is that the Range Rover (3 tonnes remember) stops within a couple of feet of the Focus RS - which is famous for its good brakes...

So the old image of the 4x4 which cant stop is starting to die off. Good to see, but with the increased focus on safety we do need to be aware of these things.
