........ has come and Middle England have woken up to the fact that we've been sold down the river by various Governments over that last 40 odd years, handing control over our lives to Europe and allowing ourselves to be controlled and monitored like rats in a laboratory experiment.

But enuff is enuff, and with some exemplary planning and behind the scenes networking, we "persuade" the Army, together with the Countryside Alliance to overthrow Parliament, toss all the current MPs and Euro MP's over Beachy Head, declare the Queen as Head of State until we can work out a better system and tell Europe where to stuff its bureaucratic interference and what it can do with the Euro.

Now the question is ........... what happens next? What EXACTLY can Europe do if we, as the UK, decide that we wnat nothing to do with them except as normal trading nations - no more economic mergers, no more political control, no more bureacracy. What CAN they do and what would they probably do? Woudl they invade us with the Euro army?

They could and would find all sorts of reasons to slap trade embargoes on us and standing alone we would not be able to do jack poo about it. The Frenchies have only just let beef back in after we took them to the European Court.
Having said that, and despite the fact that my company would most likely go bust as a result, I do have a certain amount of enthusiasm for your plan

errr no they'd laugh heartily and let us get on with it, probably impose trade sanctions (for breaking our european trade agreements).

The UN would probably get involved seeing as a minority army had created a dictatorship, and the americans would bomb us into the stone age to restore 'democracy'.

Meanwhile most well to do country folk would be holed up in their houses like rabbits trying to defend themselves from the looting hordes.

The value of the pound would collapse bringing galluping inflation, and we'd be left in a worse financial state than Central america.

LArge businesses would up and leave due to the political instability, trade unions would march given the rapidly rising unemployment levels and unstatainable wage levels due to the inflation.

Then the queen would remember saying that this was ok a few years back to one of her corgis, and everyone would be satisfied and return to their homes.

Too true ... because multinationals *never* work in countries with political instability or high inflation

Profit motive is king - they could give a toss - as long as the return justifies the risk.

A bold plan - think of the tax saving with no politicians to support.

Great........the royal family making decisions. They are all German/Austrian/Greek so Europe would have even more control than they do now

Ever thought 'Europe' might enforce some trade embargoes for walking out on our EEC commitment & obligations.

Multi national companies with a presence here would probably withdraw.

Meltdown.......

What would happen is George dubbya would come along, the following day, and make a speech. In this speech, apart from inventing a few more new words, he'd offer us the opportunity of becoming the 51st(?) state.

This, we would except on the condition that we could have the 'chair and the protection of some of his big guns and stuff for our british waters and coastline. Safe in this knowledge we could begin using all our fantastic resources again and to good effect.

Since we could happily trade with the rest world and not worry, embargoes from the EU would be of no concern. And we could carry on eating our beef while the french go loopy eating theirs.

Or, maybe not!

The Queen already is the head of state.

I think you mean, "head of government". God forbid.

Hmm ok fair point, but most multinationals prefer stable perdictable rule (dictorships are ideal ) obviously given the risk/return possibilities some are prepared to take remarkable risks.

With Liz in charge, thats a serious gamble though!!

Good idea Dave.

As the 4th biggest economy in the world, it would be in nobody's interest to use block tactics.

Trade and money would indeed prevail, not the machinations of Brussellian intrigue.

The impending European Federation would be the biggest political and socio-economic faux pas ever to be perpetrated against the British people.

We can do the whole debate again if you like but for the record, I'm all in favour of the EEC as trading zone but trading zone alone.

I simply have no faith in politicians with even bendier spines than our own, who will restrict me even more and to whom the significance of Britons will be even less than it is currently to Billy Liar.

Folly, madness, people spinning in graves, etc, etc.

Still direct line descendants from the Tudor and Stuart dynasties... OK, with a bit of dilution thrown in along the line.

"A bit of dilution"........you mean a mad German with a penchant for body piercing i.e. the inventor of the Prince Albert followed by a blonde Greek from Corfu.

And thats just in the last 150 years !

So the royal houses of Europe did suffer from a touch of inbreeding. At least they weren't from Norfolk.

Wouldn't it be great if they were, imagine the Queens speech on christmas day in a very strong Norfolk accent !

Or instead of "My husband & I" it would be "me & moi owlld boiy"

Tat,
Why would EU impose embargo's if we didn't join? That smacks purely of transparent vindictiveness and even the EU is far from taking such nakedly peurile stance.

In that case, don't miss. Ever. Soldiers get awfully p155ed off at snipers... you'll want to take as many with you as you can.
