I read in a car mag a while ago an excellent idea for a day or weekends frollics which offers all the fun of a trackday but a lot lot cheaper.
1- We need a large area of land we can use ie a field etc- or we rent one, or an old rarely used airfield for a bunch of us to hoon about on & have a few races in the style of a rally super special stage.
However he is the difference bit-
2- All Ph'ers who want to come for this day or weekends frollics, must buy a very cheap car especially for the event.
The only rules-
3- The car budget is £50 receipts must be shown!
4- You must drive the car to the event
Now obiously there are few MOT'd and road legal cars for £50 so getting the car there would be fun! and it may need to be trailered home after its thrashing but I think its a great idea.

Great concept, but the practice might be a little different.
Insurance is a headache for many, and if you're going to race them, then you need marshalls and stuff, as well as a tin lid...
Assuming the cars are well thrapped (most likely) how do you get them from the venue? You might need new tyres to meet road legality... and what do you do with the damn thing afterwards?
I think it'd be fun, but think there may be a few too many issues to make it work... but I'd love to be proved wrong.

Or maybe someone could talk to a local scrap dealer and ask them to come and take away all the cars afterwards?? I certainly wouldn't want to take the sad remains home with me afterwards. Assuming there were any, that is!

I personally thought this required some kind of insurance. What happens if you have an accident on the way to the meet, or during the event? If someone got hurt, it could get messy in a legal sense...
As for speaking to a scrappy... good idea in principle, but it costs money to scrap a car these days... hence the reason so many are dumped on the roads or on verges... or set alight.

what a joke! I could get a micra (1989) for £50, just for curiosity i did an insurance quote for 1000 miles as thats the minimum:

Does it really? I didn't know that. I assumed they still gave you money for wrecks since they sell bits off them to unsuspecting members of the public... Doh, but now I'm just being naïve!!
I still recall sniggering at the depressed look on my flatmate's face when they towed away the rusty remains of his Marina (not that long ago, actually!) and he was left standing there with £25 in used notes clutched in his hot little hand.
I wonder what he'd do now?

I suggest registering it in the name of any cabinet minster - license to speed - use bus lanes - etc and all tickets go to them...

Marina scrap value... £100, minus collection fee £25, punter gets £25... scrappy makes a profit.

Do I really sound like the kind of person who'd drive a Marina by choice?! Though I must admit I used to read Jalopy magazine because it was interesting.
