mrs insn't very happy with me at the mo, so ive said we'll go away for the weekend. obviously we'll have to take the trev!

thats where i need your help. do you know any great inns/pubs/hotels - open fire, good beer and accommodation - thats in good trev blasting country??

Or if you fancy travelling further I took the 'Mrs' up to a very nice family run hotel in Yorkshire, a few miles South of Caterick.

5 stars, 4 poster bed (women seem to love those...), and a superb meal sat in front of a roaring fire at a 'quaint' local place recommended by the hotel owner.

Some good roads about up there too

If you are really in the dog house their are even some (tourist orientated) antique shops you could let yourself be dragged around nearby

Can dig the name out if you want it. Don't tell 'her' but it was also very reasonably priced

The place I normally go is Stapleford park (www.staplefordpark.com? about 100 miles up the A1. Once you've thrown in a couple of spa treatments, and some riding or shooting (or golf), it adds up a bit, but it is about as good a place as you can find in Britain. Impeccable service, very good food, relaxing surroundings (gardens by Capability Brown).

How about The Isle of Shite ?? Its straight down the M3 and 45 minutes on the Ferry, out of season so stacks of places to stay and once you get over on the south side of the island the coast road is a fantastic blast, that good its where Clarkson did the Aston/575 thing. Also because you do the ferry thing it gives the Mrs the illusion of going "abroad" and somewhere exotic

Slightly less expensive but still good - a few years ago I stayed at the Wild Duck Inn, Ewen in Gloucestershire. Lovely old place, hyoooge fire, nice beer, and Gloucestershire Dining Pub of the Year 2 years in a row. Only drawback was the bar noise filtered through to the rooms - not a problem if you're there until closing, of course

For somewhere a bit different try The Crazy Bear Hotel. It's near Stadhampton, on the outskirts of Oxford. Check out www.crazybearhotel.co.uk/ for info. Stayed there a couple of years back and it was lovely. Does get booked up though.

Right. A couple of recommendations:

If you are in deeeeep sh*t (we're talking she found out about the time you and her sister...etc)

The Royal Crescent Hotel, Bath. Lots of indoor stuff to do in Bath. Quaint. Character. Lots of nice TVR roads nearby etc.

If you are in deep poo (you forgot her birthday).

Tylney Hall in Hampshire. Nice roads nearby. Not too far from London. Country pubs not far away for the Sunday. Great food - good wine list.

The Celtic Manor resort in Newport is a fantastic spot (Ryder Cup venue in 2010). Approx £150 per room per night. 3 golf courses as well if your into that sort of thing but cracking spa/beauty therapy/pool/sauna etc for 'er indoors.
3 really good restaurants as well.

I'm with Don on this one - the Royal Crescent is the place to go.

And get this - their porters know how to:

a) - Open the doors and work out the immobiliser on your Trevor
a) - Drive your TVR safely into secure parking for you
b) - Pack your luggage into a TVR boot!

Do not hesitate.

PS - take your swimming keks - the pool etc must not be missed.

PPS - take her back there in the summer when you can take high tea and champers on the lawn

PPS - take lots and lots of money!

One of the best things about this place is that you are very close to the Beacons, fantastic views and roads - head for junction 32 head north (a470) and keep going (straight on towards brecon) - you know you've hit the beacons when no matter how fast you are going some guy on a bike wants to go at least 50mph faster, and look right or left it's steep.

BTW you can head for book city by going this way - hay-on-wye - if the missus likes books....

+ the hotel is great with or without golf (but v good with golf)

I'd also head for Stapleford Park. Took my management team there for Christmas dinner and stayover. Absolutely superb - a place you never forget. My wife still nags me to go back.

If you want old country house type hotel then the "Best Western" New House Hotel just North of Cardiff has it all. Roaring fire, not far from some great roads and even had some of the Rally Teams staying there recently. And it can be a great drive to get there as well.

The NewForest is good, and if she likes horses a great place to take her for a horse ride and see the forest.

Try around Brockenhurst, very nice place.
