I really hope Lenox Lewis wins for beating that beast Tyson but Beckham will get it for the sympathy vote.

No good old 'Bedford gal' Paula Radcliffe.

She,s worked so hard for years to be world No1 and just ben pipped all the time.
This years World Recold breaking Marathon Run the USA is gotta be the Hi-light.

Heavy weight boxing seems so dull know without enough good Boxers.

And to think me and my mates used to take the mickey out of her noddinghead running style when we see her down the pub.

WTF is it with George Best getting a lifetime acheivement award, he only played for 11 seasons (4 of them he was under 20) and has done absolutely fk all since, had NO international succes, ambassador for the sport my arse

Ooh he's a bit ill, let's give him an award

bks IMHO

Well done Paula, though, and the Ryder cup team, I know Scruff was rooting for them

Well sad that man. Does my head in when George Best is being talked about, they go all dreamy eyed and tell us what a great man and what a superb footballer he was.

What next, Gazza!

Well, seeing as Paula was 33-1 ON, Lennox and Beckham were never in the frame.

What did Beckham do anyway, Man U won nowt and we went out of the World Cup in the quarters

So he had another kid and earned £500m

Lennox: beat what Tyson always was, a 'small' heavyweight with short arms - except he was once a small heavyweight with short arms who was lightning quick with a knock-out punch in either hand. What a difference 10 years , spending money like Crazee and a jail sentence make ...

So Paula it was .. thoroughly deserved though ...

It's all in Athletics Weekly this week (plug)

Oh yeah, and to thjose of you having a dig at George, you obviously never saw him play in the flesh.

He had the balance of Ryan Giggs but could kick with both feet - so probably TWICE the player.

Granted though he did look dead already.

And that goal against England in the Home Internationals in the 70s when he kicked it over Bank's head was disallowed althoguh fcuk knows why?

Congrats Paula, you deserve it!

Thankfully it seems that this years winner actually has a personallity! As for Bekham, he won it last year, so why should he win it this year?

My vote for team of the year went to Rona Martin and the GB Curling squad (OK actually all Scots) for the Winter Olympics

Fair enough (Although Maradonna was better (and a stumpy Argentinian cheat)) but lifetime achievment, I think not

And why was Maradona better? Because he won the World Cup? I don't think so. Because he ran from the half-way line, never touched the ball with his right foot ONCE and still managed to put Peter Reid, Kenny Sansom on their arses? No I don't think so.
For being a fat, cocaine ridden, cheating South American twat - possibly.

Best was better than Maradona for pure entertainment and had better ball control to boot. The latter just carried it out on a bigger stage in a better national team, that's all.

But better? Don't waste my time please!

Let's just disagree on that one, after all I never saw Maradonna play live, so I can't make the comparison. R...

Do we want to try that again without our rose tinted specs

Back on topic, do you think George Best deserves a LIFETIME ACHIEVMENT award. not "best footballer ever" not "most likely to destroy his body through drink or drugs" not "most beauty queens in one sitting"

FYI and sorry, as you probably did read my post, just want to make it clear, I'm no fan of Maradonna the man, just think he was an astounding footballer
