Insurance of Hire Cars

We have a guy at work here who passed his test last week, and he needs to go to a project up north. To do this easily a hire car would be best.

But we have found that many hire companies will not insure a driver until they have had a years experience.

Does anyone know of any company who will do this - the driver is over 25 if that makes a difference?

I'm not suprised you are having a problem, would you like to take the risk on your new car with an inexperienced driver?
Does the company not have a fleet cover of any kind? that usually covers hire vehicles and ours has no restrictions on experience, just age (over 25).

We understand the risk involved but obviously we pay for that through the insurance.

We do have a pool car and a couple of company cars which I have been told are insured using a 'nominated driver' approach, ie whoever has been asked to use it is insured.

I don't know whether that covers a 'hired' car?

Most company cars come under a "general" insurance.

Usually with "the policy holders permission", some comp.car pol's also cover hire cars.

Most "personal" insurances dont cover cars under hire or lease
