I don't mean to be offensive to all the beardies out there, even the beardie wierdies that may or may not be science/IT lecturers but...

What is the point of that mass of hair?

I know in the 70's they were fashionable, tsk even the honourable George Best had one (we are truly not worthy) but since then has Vivian Westwood, or Karl Lagerfeld spouted how "in" they are.?
In fact will beards ever be this years black?

I feel the answer is no. Never.

So, is it to hide something?
As a child I was very scared of anything beardyfied, especially my aunty Clara. Ewww, sends shivers down my spine.

Or is it just laziness'?

I don't get it.

Laziness, can't be arsed to shave.
Plus side, it keeps your mug warm when lid off in winter.

I've got a beard because

1. I don't have to shave every day
2. It suits my face shape better
3. Cosmic lurrrves it and won't let me shave it off.
3. I can have seconds after my meal by sucking on my moustache.

I used to really value the extra ten minutes of every day which I smugly could stay in bed because I had a beard.

However, I went back to being clean shaven earlier this year and unfortunately since I now look 10 years younger I'm afraid it's got to stay off....

Well I've got dark hair (or it would be if I pulled all the grey ones out... on second thughts I'd be bald ) but for some bizarre genetic reason my beard grows ginger.

you've got to give one a go though. i grew one for a month or so, just to see - and turned out looking like grizzly adams!
it's a whole new world, that whilst very strange indeed, held some sort of appeal.
ladies did not approve.

great first shave afterwards as well!

Ive tried, but it itches too much.
Plus i was told to "go get a wash scruffy".
Not a very appealing thought to have half your dinner trapped in there somewhere slowly decaying....yuk!

You go through the "itchy phase" when you grow a beard. It generally lasts for about a day and is the point at which most people give up and have a shave. You do also look fairly scruffy at that point, its true.

I've just thought of another reason why I have a beard - when I'm clean shaven I tend to get "5 o'clock shadow" round about mid day, so look permanently unshaven.

Faced with either looking like that, or shaving several times a day, or having a beard, I choose the latter!

I have a beard - 'cause with my long hair I need it to stop blokes chatting me up.

I've had one for 25 years or so, every time I shave it off, about once in 5 years , I grow it straight back again.
Points as before, Dont have to shave every day, makes me look too young with it off, too cold, and lastly, Mrs Rumbly says no, so there you go.

I had a beard when I was 18! Dont ask, its a long story.
The fact was I have blondey hair, blue eyes and my beard is/was ginger!
Whats all that about?

Come to think of it we did used to call the milkman ginger tosser, while nicking mars bars off the back of the milk float.

Typical in a way, beards getting slagged by people that don't have them or only tried them. Going on second hand evidence and the office grapevine.
Well the build quality does vary but by the large pretty standard and maintenance free.
They are reliable.
Styling does vary but its up to the owner.
Any colour you want.
Don't need a bible to look after them (sorry Steve)
A large carrying capacity on the bigger model for soup, chicken, stray cats etc.
only happens once if you grow one for life
