Well Racegirl must have been overdoing it a bit on her girlies Holiday as after 2 days back in Blighty shes in for a Detox at the national health services expense
Anyway this is becoming quite regular, previously shes been in for pancreas problems, and gall bladder mishaps, so what causes this then, she does like a drop a two and previously this has been mentioned by the doctors, but shes had scans that show no gall stones but I think this time they are talking about wipping the gall bladder out
So what does this involve what will life be like with out it, are there any dangers?

A friend of mine had her gall bladder removed, (I think) and it required key hole surgery followed by two months adjusting to not having one. I think the worst aspect was the 8 week wait for an operation. Other than that, it was no great shakes.

They have mentioned key hole surgury, with 5 'keyholes' dice style with the belly button being the middle one, how big is a gall bladder, and how do they get it out through the little holes? Can you keep it afterward?

My sister-in-law had it done yesterday via the 5-hole method, she's fine, slept most of yesterday, comes out of hospital later today.

p.s. apparently the main downside to the keyhole method is that if there's infection it can 'fester' away inside, unseen, and get quite nasty before it erupts.

I'm sure Nubbin will tell you more efficiently but my Dad recently had the key-hole surgery mentioned above to remove his gallbladder. He's doing fine without it, actually better.

I am sure that if you ask they will let you have it. My Dad had his finger amputated and bought it home for me to play with. Think it is still in their freezer.

After watching TLC last night they'd make you take it home
Without making me trawl through google what does your gall bladder do? (and keep it simple)
And how come we have all these organs we seem to be able to cope without?
Is a Gall badder one of those things that does just 'stops working' (they all do that sir) or has she killed it
Everyone else in the ward is well into retirement age and shes only 27

The nurse on TLC had ear rings made from gall stones

Gallbladders store bile, which is part of the fat digestion process. Gallstones are basically lumps of cholesterol which precipitate out of the bile solution, and gradually grow, as layers of grease accumulate over the years - a bit like that dusty sausage you dropped down the back of your cooker 4 years ago....

Her previous scans were showing no stones, but I think she's having another today, but if they wip it out where does all this bile go?
What changes is she going to have to make to her current lifestyle?

So then Nub, is she going to be an uneconomical repair and needs writing off/replacing with a newer, fitter model, or is she only a Cat D 'easy repair'
